سترت الهوى والدار تجمع شملنا

فلما استعدوا للنوى انكشف الستر

Love and home united us

But when they prepared to leave, the veil was lifted

ملكت وهم في الدار صبر محلم

فلما استقلوا صار يملكني الصبر

I was calm while they were home

But when they left, calmness overcame me

وفاضت دموع العين وهي تراهم

فكيف إذا ما حال دونهم الدهر

Tears flowed as I watched them go

How much more when time comes between us

عذرت علىأن لم أمت قبل بينهم

فلما استبدّوا بينهم سقط العذر

I excused myself for not dying among them

But when they parted from me, the excuse fell away
