I began with gratitude in poetry whose couplets
Are strict, sharp and piercing couplets
You praised yourself when you abandoned courtesy
From it for all people
You stripped me while favoring what you have specified for me
Of virtues in prose and poetry
And I have a conversation I will reveal even if you are
Considerate of my sufferings and pains
Advanced age, poverty, and expatriation
Along with what I was afflicted with in legs and feet
Sometimes I recover and sometimes I suffer illness
And death lurks between cold and illness
And living in a time that its people have turned
To pleasure, ill thoughts, and sickness
I see souls whose rancor blinds their eyes
From hearts with hatred not concealed
They are not guided to any good to utter
A word while its implication seduces my blood
My Lord, peace be upon me and do not
Be satisfied with that except with complete silence
I am imploring the Misfortune
That if it afflicts those who can endure it
No, by Him whom I fold and unfold
From mentioning your grace between Arabs and non-Arabs
And what my heart contains of agony
Over youth, and my oath by the Prophet suffices me
And by loyalty if an aberrant one departs
And truly what I contained of the resolve of my determination
