نوافي مرّة ونغيب أخرى

ويوشك أن نغب فلا نوافي

We meet once and we are absent another time,

And we are about to be absent, so we do not meet again.

وكلّ اثنين مجتمعين يوما

على عيش تحفّ به العوافي

And every two gathered together one day,

On a livelihood surrounded by misfortunes.

فيوشك أن تشتّهمُ الليالي

بموت أو بين أو خلاف

So the nights are about to long for them,

With death or separation or disagreement.
