رأيت المزاح له كبوة

تميت القلوب موتنفي السهادا

I saw jesting has a hump,

That kills hearts, causing sadness in joy.

ويأتيك من صاحب مبغض

ومن وامق كان ينوي البعادا

It comes to you from an enemy,

And a hypocrite who intends to hurt.

فخل المزاح فلا خير فيه

فإن المزاح يذيب الفؤادا

So leave jesting, there is no good in it,

For jesting melts the heart.
