أيها الغرّ بالزما

ن وتاثير عكسه

O stranger to the days and the opposite effect of time

You have experienced time in its ups and downs

قد بلوت الزمان بل

وى عليم بنكسه

And observed its happiness

From the twists of its misfortune

وتأمّلت سعده

من تصاريف نحسه

From the flickers of its full moon

And the succession of its sun

لتكارير بدره

وتراديد شمسه

Each day comes and it is unlike yesterday

Yesterday passed either flourishing or withering

كل يوم يجيء فه

و خلاف لأمسه

And nothing remains of it except wishes

And wishes are like guesses

قد مضى أمس ذاهبا

زاكيا أو بوكسه

You have this day while you are in the shade of its intimacy

So prepare with piety before the grave and its inscription

وبقي دونه المنى

والمنى مثل حدسه

Do not trust any human

Who is not of your kind

لك من يومك الذي

انت في ظل أنسه

Except those you are certain of

Other than them, trust their misfortune

فتزوّد من التقى

قبل قبر ورمسه

The summary of the whole matter

Is to explain its ambiguity

لا تثق فيه بامرىء

لست من أهل جنسه

There is none on earth who wants you

Except for themselves

دون من لست واثقا

منه إلا بنحسه

جملة الأمر كله

عن بيان للبسه

ليس في الأرض من يري

دك إلا لنفسه
