يستبشر الناس بأعيادهم

للأكل و الزينة والكسب

People rejoice in their festivals

For food, adornment, and profit

والعيد عندي يوم ملهى ولا

أتبع فيه الذنبَ بالذنب

But for me, a festival is a day of diversion when

I do not add sin to sin

وصاحب الشر بلا قاتل

وخير منه صحبة للكلب

And the evildoer has no executioner

Better than him is the company of a dog

والناس أنسٌ عند ذي غفلة

والبعد منهم راحة القلب

People are companions to the heedless one

While distance from them eases the heart
