Claude 2

Alas! For the hardships of this time,

Its principles are corrupt and stingy.

    Its conditions have become contrary,

To the prosperity of the past.

How many noble fathers of generosity,

    Struggle for their daily bread.

Sustenance comes not from the cunning of horses,

Nor does aid flow freely from its source.

Patience is the best weapon for a man,

    Contentment makes his hand weaker.

How many feeble ones have I seen cast down,

Whom this time has oppressed with its burden.
