لي حبيبٌ أذاب قلبي وصدّا

كان في الحكم ظالما وتعدّى

I have a beloved who melted my heart and was stern

He was unjust in his rule and exceeded limits

كلما ازددت من هواه ليرضى

قابلَ الوصل بالجفاء وصدّا

Whenever I increased in my love for him to please him

He met my affection with aloofness and sternness

بأبي وجهك الذي جمع الحس

ن فقد صار في الملاحة فردا

By my father's face which gathered beauty

He became unmatched in handsomeness

يفضح البدر جالسا فإذا قا

م حكاه القضيب حسنا وقدّا

He shames the full moon sitting, and when he stands

His stature makes him handsome and well-built

وإذا ما مشى حسبت رياح الجوّ قد

حملّت عبيرا وندّا

And when he walks, I imagine the winds

Have carried perfume and dew
