إذا خرج الغازي فقل لا مشت به

إلى مطلب ساق ولا نهضت رجل

If the raider departs, then say not I strode with him

To any quest my foot led, or my leg rose;

فما يصحب الغازي من الناس فاضل

ولا من له عرف ولا من له عقل

No virtuous man accompanies the raider,

Nor he of noble deed, nor he of sense;

بقايا رذالات القرايا وكل من

له أدب نذل ومولده رذل

The dregs of huts, each man of vulgar birth

And base in manners, these his comrades were.
