Do not blame me, for no blame lies upon me.
My eye beheld her, and now it cannot sleep.
No other eyes have shared in seeing her, nor have—
the days drunk from the freshness of her face.
O cruel tyrant of the dark, does one whose religion is Islam deem—
killing lawful?
I forsook the fair, budding-breasted maidens and brought—
my love for her to perfection; so I am not to blame.
