O reproacher, who finds fault without cause,
day after day, intent on severing the bond between us—
we know what you seek by all this.
So do as you wish, wisely; you need not trouble yourself.
If you desired union with no one but her,
why, then, did you turn your face away from us?
We freely gave you affection and lo—
—ve, and gave you more than you could ever wish for.
We followed your pleasure in every way—
if only we were requited in kind for all we have done!
How much longer—how long—shall I offer up my heart?
And how much longer—how long, how long—will you find fault without cause?
You have put our union to death by turning away;
had you restored the union on your side, we would have lived.
