أَهُمُّ بِالهَجرِ أَحياناً وَأَقتَرِفُ
فَلَيتَ شِعري أَأَمضي فيهِ أَم أَقِفُ
At times I think of forsaking you—and thereby commit an offense;
Would that I knew: should I go through with it, or stop?
عَلَّمتِ عَيني بُكاً لَم يَبكِهِ أَحَدٌ
مِن كُلِّ شُفَرٍ بِعَيني دَمعَةٌ تَكِفُ
You taught my eye to weep as no one ever wept;
From every eyelash of my eye, a teardrop falls.
