أَأَبدى سَرائِرَكِ الظاعِنونا

أَقَرّوا عُيوناً وَأَبكَوا عُيونا

Have the slanderers revealed your secrets?

They shed tears and made eyes weep.

ظَلومُ أَيا مَن أَحَلَّ الفُؤا

دَ شَوقاً وَأَجرى دُموعي هَتونا

Oppressors! O you who ignited longing

And let my tears flow copiously.

أَلا لَيتَ شِعري عَلى نَأَيِكُم

أَناسونَ لِلعَهدِ أَم ذاكِرونا

Alas! I wish I knew whether with your absence

You forgot the covenant or still remembered us.

فَلا لَومَ إِن ساءَ ظَنّي بِكُم

فَكُلُّ مُحبٍّ يُسيءُ الظُنونا

So do not blame me if I think badly of you all,

For every lover harbors suspicions.
