بَكَيتُ الدُموعَ فَلَمّا اِنقَضَت
بَكَيتُ الدِماءَ بِها مُعوِلا
I cried tears until they were gone
Then I cried blood in their stead
فَأَفنَيتُ دَمعي بِطولِ البُكا
فَما تَقدِرُ العَينُ أَن تَهمُلا
I exhausted my tears with much weeping
Yet my eyes cannot neglect their duty
كَأَنَّ الهَوى لَم يَجِد لِلبَلا
ءِ في صَدرِ غَيري لَهُ مَدَخَلا
As if heartbreak could find no other
In which to make its dwelling
سَأَستَمطِرُ العَينَ إِن أَمسَكَت
فَإِنَّ شِفائي أَن تُسبِلا
I will make my eyes rain if they hold back
For my cure is that they flow
