وَمُراقَبٍ رَجَعَ السَلامَ بِطَرفِهِ

وَمُحَيَّرٍ لَم يَستَطع تَسليما

A watcher returned the greeting with a glance

A perplexed one unable to bid farewell

وَأَرادَهُ حَتّى كَأَنَّ بَنانَهُ

طَوَّقنَ صاحِبَ نَفضَةٍ مَحموما

Wanting him as though his fingertips

Embraced the wrist of an afflicted lover
