لَقَد كُنتُ أَطوي ما أُلاقي مِنَ الهَوى
حِذاراً وأُخفِيهِ وَأَكتُمُهُ جُهدي
I used to conceal whatever passion I encountered
Carefully, hiding it with all my effort
فَنَمَّت عَلى قَلبي سَواكِبُ عَبرَةٍ
تَجودُ بِها عَينايَ سَحّاً عَلى خَدّي
Then tears' stars grew in my heart
My eyes shed them copiously on my cheek
وَفي هَمَلانِ العَينِ أَعدَلُ شاهِدٍ
عَلى غَيبِ ما يُخفي الضَّميرُ مِنَ الوَجدِ
And in the eye's distraction I find a fair witness
To the secret that the soul hides of ardor
