1. شَأني وَشَأنُكَ فيما بَينَنا عَجَبٌ

    تَدعى المَريضَ وَقَلبي صاحِبُ الأَلَمِ

    My state and your state between us is strange

    You complain though my heart bears the pain

  2. نَفسي تَقيكَ مِنَ المَكروهِ طائِعَةً

    ليَهنِكَ الوُدُّ وُدٌّ غَيرَ مُقتَسَمِ

    My soul protects you from harm willingly

    Let affection bring you ease, undivided care

  3. أَقَمتَ بِالكُرهِ لِلشَكوى مُجاوِرَنا

    وَلَو تَخَلَّصتَ مِن شَكواكَ لَم تُقِم

    You dwell with discontent, constant in plaint

    Were you free of your grief, you would not remain

  4. فَلَيتَكَ الدَهرَ لي جارٌ أُجاوِرُهُ

    وَكانَ ما بِكَ بي مِن ذَلِكَ السَقَمِ

    Would that you were, for time, a neighbor dear

    And what of you in me were of that illness clear
