بَكَيتُ غَداةَ بِنتِ بِدَمعِ عَينٍ
لَهُ قَرِحَت جُفوني وَالمَآقي
I wept one morning with tears from my eyes
They blistered my eyelids and sights of woe
وَأَقلَقَني فِراقُكِ إِذ دَعاني
لِحَيني بَغتَةً فَمَتى التَلاقي
And your parting distressed me when suddenly
It called to my days, so when is our reunion?
لَقَد هَدَّ الهَوى بَدَني وَأَضنى
فُؤادي الهَمُّ مِن طولِ اِشتِياقي
Passion has emaciated my body and grieved
My heart with prolonged yearning
أُعَلِّلُ بِالمُنى نَفسي وَما لي
سِوى اليَأسِ الَّذي فيهِ اِحتِرامي
I blame my soul for pining, yet I have
Naught but despair in which lies my solace
