عن القصد قد جاروا وما جرت عن قصدي

إذا خفيت طرق الفرائس عن أسد

They went beyond intent, though not by my intent

If the paths of prey are hidden from a lion

إذا اعترضوا للبخل أعرضت عنهم

وإن من أقوام كتمت الذي أسدى

If they object to stinginess, I turn away from them

And there are some who conceal what I bestow

فللَه ما أخفى من العدل والندى

وللَه ما أبدى من الفضل والمجد

So to God what I hide of justice and guidance

And to God what I reveal of generosity and glory

ولا التقي ضيفي بغير بشاشةٍ

إذا فجحدت اللَه معروفه عندي

Nor do I meet my guest without a smile

If I deny what God has granted through me
