كُنّا إِذا الجَبّارُ أَغلَقَ بابَهُ
نَسيرُ وَنَكسو الدارِعينَ القَوانِسا
Whenever the tyrant shut his gate against us,
we would march on, arraying the mail-clad in helmets.
فَمَن يَأتِنا أَو يَعتَرِض لِطَريقِنا
يَجِد أَثَراً بَقّاً وَعِزّاً خُنابِسا
So whoever comes to us or crosses our path
will find an enduring mark and formidable, lion-like might.
