أَلَم تَرَ قَيساً في المَواطِنِ أوثِرَت

عَلَيَّ بِمَعنٍ وَالسَعيدُ سَعيدُ

Have you not seen Qays preferred

Over me in situations, and the fortunate one is fortunate

لَقَد عَلِموا ما يَعصُرٌ بِأَبيهِم

وَلَكِنَّهُ جارٌ لَهُم وَعَديدُ

They certainly knew what Â’ṣur's son was like

But he is a neighbor to them and kind

هُما أَخَوانِ مِن غَنِيٍّ وَأَعصُرٍ

فَكَيفَ يُعَزّى عِندَ ذاكَ جَليدُ

They are brothers of Ghani and Â’ṣur

So how can consolation be found there, O stalwart one
