Jarir was distracted from his father and mother
By a place delightful to young men.
When a woman of ill repute sees him, she smiles
At him and says, “Indeed, this one is well suited.”
He spends the night sniffing the milch she-camels as they rest motionless,
As a pampered stud-camel sniffed maiden white she-camels.
He frowns at gray-haired women, yet he
Beams at every woman with yellow fingertips.
A brazen fellow—the dog keeps chewing his robe;
He has a path through the haunts of lovely women.
Ever going out and coming in, flighty, as though
He were bound by a pledge never to come to his senses.
He is rough in driving pregnant she-camels and pasturing them,
But gentle in making the rings dance.
And Aws son of Mudlij falls short of him;
And he is the one Tariq and Zaniq fear.
