Does ‘Amir, year after year, still have
ear-tagged booty from injury-compensation at al-Fizr's expense?
By your life, I do not know, and I am surely asking:
Is Murrah more unjust, or Murrah's paternal uncles?
Why, then, does al-Samin's spokesman not rise,
and why does the son of Dhu al-Jaddayn not speak
about an outrage within the ancestral stock, beyond the power
of the feeble, stunted man when the people fear it,
at a time when no one knows whether what has already passed for it
of the night is greater, or the night's later part?
And al-Jabba' was no abode of ours,
nor Thamad al-Kurayn, that foremost pool.
