1. هَنيئَةُ في الضِلالِ وَعَبدُ بَكرٍ

    وَمِنجابٌ كَراعِيَةِ الخَيالِ

    Hanīʾa is astray, and so is ʿAbd Bakr;

    and Minjāb is like a shepherdess tending a phantom.

  2. لِزَيدِ اللاتِ أَقدامٌ صِغارٌ

    قَليلٌ أَخذُهُنَّ مِنَ النِعالِ

    Zayd al-Lāt has little feet;

    they take up but little of his sandals.

  3. تَخَلَّوا في الحَوادِثِ عَن أَبيهِم

    وَنادَوا خُفرَةً دَعوى ضَلالِ

    Amid calamities, they forsook their father

    and called for protection—a misguided call.
