أَلا تَنهى بَنو عِجلٍ جَريراً
كَما لا يَنتَهي عَنّا هِلالُ
Will not Banu 'Ijil cease opposing Jarir
As the crescent moon never ceases its course?
وَما يُغني عَنِ الذُهلَينِ إِلّا
كَما يُغني عَنِ الغَنَمِ الخَيالُ
Of what use is argument to the foolish
As visions avail not the grazing herd?
