The sons of Darim are near heaven, while you are
The tribe of Darim near the sky while you
the earth's refuse—how wide the gulf between the two!
Are the scum of the earth, how far between that is!
And indeed among them were Hajib and his cousin,
Among them was a chamberlain and the son of his uncle,
Abu Jandal, and Zayd—Zayd of battles.
Abu Jandal and Zayd, Zayd of battles,
And Hanzala's sons, lofty peaks, lend them aid:
And progeny of Hanzala Al-Jurai
a host like pebbles, whose multitude defies every daring assailant.
As pebbles that defy every assailant’s grasp
And many a chief their spears have felled
And how many a chief did their spears drizzle
at a crossing among the low, compacted sand dunes.
Between the sand dunes and rugged terrain
And without them, O son of al-Maragha, you would have been
And were it not for them, O son of Maragha, you would be
cast-offs amid spearpoints, left for the hooves.
Prey amidst the edges of the spearheads
They rescued your captives on the day of al-Suhaybat,
They saved your captives on the day of Suhyubat
while the sons of the Dog's clan had bare camel-yards.
While the sons of Kalb the dog, the beaten wretches
You fled in fear of the Tha'labites when they advanced
So you fled, wary of the foxes when they vowed
with a vast host—a mountain of towering withers.
With the roar of a towering, ferocious lion
