لا يَرهَبُ الضَبعَ مَن أَمسَت بِعَقوَتِهِ
إِلّا الأَذِلّانِ زَيدُ اللاتِ وَالغَنَمُ
No one in whose yard the hyena spends the evening fears her,
The hyena frightens none by his yawning
except the two abject ones: Zayd al-Lāt and the sheep.
Save the abject Zayd and the sheep.
هاتا لَهُنَّ ثُغاءُ وَهيَ جائِلَةٌ
وَهَؤُلا قابِلو خَسفٍ وَإِن رَغَموا
These bleat as they roam,
While they are meeting disaster though they dislike it.
and those submit to humiliation, even against their will.
