They were depicted in an elegant image
As if it were a refined poem
A painting by a skilled portrayer
With the scepter of glory and crown
And beneath him on the ladder of status
A noble tribe, complaining of swords
And a priest behind him, an Israelite
Before him, money in a purse
And a soldier brandishing a sword
And a beggar with a hunchbacked figure
And below all of them, a farmer
In his bag, his lawful harvest
And below each image, an expression
Conveying what the gesture indicates
The king says, I rule over you
And the noble says, I lead you
The priest says, I pray
For you, my duty and extra
The Israelite says, it's clear
That I profit off you
The soldier says, I protect you
The crooked beggar says, I ask from you
And the farmer pleads, I and my Lord
Feed all of you out of love
Your heavy burden wears me out
And I have no kindness for you
