في ذي الجُفونِ صَوارِمُ الأَقدارِ
راعي البَرِيَّةَ يا رَعاكِ الباري
In those eyelids are the swords of fate
O shepherd of the wilderness, may God tend you
وَكَفى الحَياةُ لَنا حَوادِثَ فَاِفتِني
مَلَأَ النُجوم وَعالَمَ الأَقمارِ
And life has brought us enough turmoil, so distract me
The stars and moon-worlds have been filled
ما أَنتِ في هَذي الحلى إِنسِيَّة
إِن أَنتِ إِلّا الشَمسُ في الأَنوارِ
You are no mortal in this adornment
You are nothing but the sun amidst the lights
زَهراءُ بِالأُفقِ الَّذي مِن دونِهِ
وَثبُ النُهى وَتَطاوُلُ الأَفكارِ
Radiant on the horizon beyond which
Forbidden desires prance and thoughts rise high
تَتَهَتَّكُ الأَلبابُ خَلفَ حِجابِها
مَهما طَلَعتِ فَكَيفَ بِالأَبصارِ
Reasons slip away behind her veil
No matter how she rises, what of visions?
يا زينَةَ الإِصباحِ وَالإِمساءِ بَل
يا رَونَقَ الآصالِ وَالأَسحارِ
O jewel of dawn and eve, nay
O grace of mornings and vigils
ماذا تُحاوِلُ مِن تَنائينا النَوى
أَنتِ الدُنى وَأَنا الخَيالُ الساري
What do you attempt from our love's groaning?
You are the near, I the roving dream
أَلقى الضُحى أَلقاكِ ثُمَّ مِنَ الدُجى
سُبُلٌ إِلَيك خَفِيَّةُ الأَغوارِ
I meet you at dawn, then from nightfall
To you are ways, hidden, of the wilds
وَإِذا أَنِستُ بِوَحدَتي فَلِأَنَّها
سَبَبي إِلَيكِ وَسُلَّمي وَمَناري
When I find peace in my solitude
It is my cause, my ladder and minaret to you
إيهٍ زَماني في الهَوى وَزَمانَها
ما كُنتُما إِلّا النَميرَ الجاري
Oh my time in love and her time
You were nothing but the flowing stream
مُتَسَلسِلاً بَينَ الصَبابَةِ وَالصِبا
مُتَرَقرِقاً بِمَسارِحِ الأَوطارِ
Linked between youth and childhood
Glittering on the stage of fates
نَظَرَ الفُراقُ إِلَيكُما فَطَواكُما
إِنَّ الفِراقَ جَهَنَّمُ الأَقدارِ
Absence looked upon you two and folded you
For absence is the hell of fates
