1. يا ليلة البال ما خالوك راقصة

    إلا وأنت جمال الدهر والحقب

    O night of anguished thoughts, nothing kept you from dancing

    Except that you are the beauty of the ages and eras

  2. كم لذة بك ولت وانقضت وجلت

    وذكرها فيه لم يبرح ولم يغب

    How much pleasure in you has come and gone, appeared and disappeared

    Yet the memory of it has not ceased or been absent

  3. بالله بالكون بالنجم الرفيع بمن

    أحياك شائقة بالمنظر العجب

    By God, by the universe, by the lofty star, by whom

    Revived you fascinating with the wondrous sight

  4. طولى لضيفانه الأمجاد واتصلى

    فما ألذ المنى موصولة السبب

    My night is long for its glorious guests and is connected

    So how pleasant is the purpose fulfilled

  5. وفود مولاى لولا أنها نزلت

    بالحلم قلنا وفود البحر ذى العبب

    Delegations of my Master, had they not descended

    In dreams we'd say delegations of the foaming sea

  6. ماج السراى وميدان السراى بها

    وماج متسع الساحات والرحب

    The pavilions swayed and the field of pavilions in it

    And the vast courtyards and open spaces swayed

  7. وأقبلت ظبيات الإنس في كنس

    من الهوادج يسعى لا من الكُثُب

    And the gazelles of humankind approached to gather

    In droves not few in number

  8. تهفو الرياح بها دفعا وهزهزة

    وتقبل الخيل بين الوخد والخبب

    The winds burst forth with it, gusts and tremors

    And the horses approached between cheek and forehead

  9. حتى إذا وقفت مالت إلى شرك

    من السواعد مأمون لها حدب

    Until when she halted she inclined toward a pleiad

    Of forearms, safe refuge for her there curved

  10. مستجمعات سريعات معاطفها

    إلى المعازف مهما تدعها تثب

    Swift assemblages, their mantles

    To the instruments however much she calls them to leap

  11. أهاجها هائج الألحان فانعطفت

    مثل النسيم سرى ساريه في القضب

    Aroused by the passionate of melodies she turned

    Like a gentle breeze, gliding through the branches

  12. ودارت الراح بالأجياد مثقلة

    بالحلى فاستسلمت من شدة الوصب

    And the spirits circled with the steeds heavily laden

    With ornament so she submitted from the intensity of ardour

  13. وبالخصور فمن واهٍ ومن قلِق

    ومن سقيم ومن فانس ومن تِعب

    And in the pavilions - so from one languishing, one restless

    One sick, one infatuated, one tired

  14. والقصر نور وآفاق الوجود سنا

    والصفو بينهما زهو لمرتقب

    And the palace is light and the horizons of existence radiant

    And the open space between them expecting revelation

  15. والليل مزّين الأطراف منتطق

    مكلل الهام حالى الجيد والّلبب

    And the night adorned at its edges speaking

    Crowned, halting of cheek and kind

  16. كأنّ أنجمه فوضى مبدّدة

    على الدجى بين مهزوز ومضطرب

    As if its stars pouring forth scattered

    Over the darkness amid shaken and troubled

  17. آثار كاسية اللبات سابحة

    في حليها فلتت من كف مغتصب

    Traces of cupbearers swimming

    In their adornment escaped from a usurping hand
