Neither does the dawn envelop it, nor the gloom,

A night whose starry multitudes are sleepless.

Its darkness is confused in the wings’ chaos,

Neither sorrows nor joys can make it stay.

You gazelles of the dawn, you are cures

For my eyes when you rise from the stillness.

Be gentle with these eyes which weep

Whenever you make them, carnelian flows.

However much its mischief ensnares the planets,

Your apparition is there in the high-orbiters.

If only I had those nights in which youth sipped

What the zephyrs spilled and the passions mounted.

They befriended my being, and life and yearning

In their shade the goblet and the blond ones.
