فتأمّل هل ترى من حيلة

في سلوك مرسلات من ذكاء

قد حكيت الشمس حتى غضبت

من نحاس تجعل الصيف شتاء

I told the sun until it got angry

From copper that makes summer winter

من رآها قال قد سخّرها

لك من سخرها للأنبياء

Who saw it said He has subjugated it

To you, the One who subjugated it to the prophets

لُعبة الناظر في غرفته

أم أفاد العلم أم أجدى الثراء

A game for the one looking in his room

Or did science benefit or wealth avail

يا ملوك المال فيما زعموا

هل ملكتم خطرات من هواء

أُشرك البائس في نعمائه

وأسوِّى القسم بين الفقراء

And equalize shares between the poor

صدق الواهم منكم إنها

لهي الدنيا خيال وهباء

The deluded among you said that it

Is the life a mirage and chaos

كل ما ساء وما سرّ بها

ينقضى بين صباح ومساء

Everything bad and good in it

Passes between morning and evening
