Moment by moment, gently, gently,

Plot after plot, spinning webs for the soul,

Often betraying and repelling it before.

Time has no loyalty, but

Al-‘Abbas feared to dominate it.

Lord of the Nile in the desert, eh?

He freed the Nile for the desert as a gift.

And raise your voice, your era is free,

None who hears your voice will reject it.

For kingship is to have a nation,

And for the nation to gain glory through the king.

Take on what you legislated and make succeed

For your subjects in education a purpose.

And command science to visit lands

That people since time memorial held as a cradle,

And ignite electricity in it to give guidance,

And make it stand on steam to be dewy.

And empower the might of iron in it and renew

The era of its construction that was an era before.

And call its Sudan to you in obedience,

It was to the dear ones a servant.

Enough, enough, it sufficed, it sufficed,

What the dear one sees as great and enduring.

Say to the Raj to steal carefully,

I do not buy this crown for a shackle.

The sleep of the sword can be life,

And I saw the flock, if it sleeps, perishing.
