1. طوقتك السحب بالمنن

    ووقيتِ الضير من دمن

    The clouds have crowned you with favors

    And protected you from harm's abode

  2. وجزيت الخلد عن زمن

    كان كل العهد بالزمن

    You were rewarded with eternity over the ages

    For all the eras were bound by time

  3. مرّ في تلك الظلال لنا

    كمرور الحلم في الوسن

    In those shadows, a dream-like moment passed for us

    Like the passage of a dream through sleep

  4. منّة للدار نذكرها

    بلسان المدمع الهتن

    A blessing for this abode we recall

    With a tearful, melting tongue

  5. دارُ من أحببت آيتها

    أنها تصغي بلا أذن

    An abode whose signs I loved

    It listens without ears

  6. عهدها لي والمنى أمتزجا

    كامتزاج الروح بالبدن

    Its era for me and wishes blended

    Like the soul blending with the body

  7. إذ عنان العيش منطلق

    بالصبا واللهو والددن

    When the reins of life were let loose

    With youth, playfulness and coyness

  8. لَيِّنٌ حال الهوى وإذا

    رضته للصحو لم يلن

    The state of passion is soft, and if

    Pleased with wakefulness, it does not soften

  9. وفؤادي لا رشاد له

    طالب اللذات ليس ينى

    My heart has no guidance

    Seeking pleasures, not content

  10. أوهنته الحادثات هوى

    وهو خفاق على الوهن

    Events have weakened it, passion has

    While it flutters with weakness

  11. كل ركن كل زاوية

    هيكل يهفو على وثن

    Each corner, each nook

    A temple lamenting over its idol

  12. خلع الأسرار كاهنه

    وبغير الحسن لم يدن

    Its priest divested mysteries

    And did not commune without beauty

  13. عجبا توفى الديار ومن

    لك بالوافين للسكن

    Strange that the abode passed away while those

    Who lodged in it remain

  14. في هوى الأوطان معذرة

    لذوى الأخلاق والفطن

    In the passion for homelands there is an excuse

    For those with ethics and intellect

  15. أنت في فقر إذا أفتقرت

    وإذا أستغنت فأنت غنى

    You are in poverty when you lose it

    And wealthy when you gain it

  16. وإذا عزّت عزّزت بها

    وإذا هانت فرُح فهُن

    When it is strong, you gain strength through it

    And when it weakens, rejoice and be gentle

  17. إن إنسانا تقابله

    ليس إنسانا بلا وطن

    If you meet a human

    Not a human without a homeland
