The wailing women
In the mind, what evening conversations
الناعمات اللواهي
العاطلات الحوالى
The gentle dreamy ones
The idle fanciful ones
الغاديات بلبى
الرائحات ببالى
Strolling coquettishly
Passing by longingly
من جؤذر ثَم يرنو
وشادن مختال
From a fawn then it looks
And a doe walking proudly
وظبية تتثنى
في راحتَى رئبال
And a gazelle bending
In my comfort, a hill
يا ليلة نجتليها
سنية في الليالي
Oh night we meet
An age in the nights
في دار أمجد سمح
مهذب مفضال
In the house of glorious Amjad
Kind and preferring
في المسلمين وجيه
وفي بنى القبط غالى
Eminent among Muslims
And dear among Copts
وبنت شمبان تزرى
على قطوف الدوالى
And the daughter of Shamban picking
On citrus fruit branches
أتى العيهد عليها
من السنين الخوالي
Time has come upon her
From the past years
وما تزال فتاة
مرجوة لوصال
Yet she remains a girl
Desired for union
