If you gather your affairs and intend

To present something precious to the governor

Take a noose without a victim

And tanned pants and a prisoner's shackles

But do not present my poetry to him, for he

Judges poetry by its script with his right hand

And do not read it in private, rather read

Publicly to the sorrowful people of Denmark
