رأيت امرأ ذاق الكفوف ولم يبل

وفي الصلَف المذموم قد زاد حدَّه

I saw a man who tasted hardship but did not give up

And in his reprehensible obstinacy he increased his limit

فقلت ارتجع فالناس في مصر أرّخوا

محمد إبراهيم صعّر خده

So I said turn back for the people in Egypt have dated
