يا ليل طل أو لا تطل

فالقلب في الحالين عاذر

O night, linger or don't linger

For in either case, the heart is understanding

إن طلت كانت رحمة

حلَّت على من كان حاضر

If you linger, it would be a mercy

Upon those present

أو لم تطل فالفجر قد

آلى بأن ينفيك صاغر

Or if you don't linger, dawn has

Vowed to banish you humbled

ألحان بلبه غدت

ممزوجة في صوت جابر

The tunes of the nightingale have become

Mixed in the voice of Jābir

هو منشد متفنن

فإذا أجاد أجاد ساحر

He is a skilled singer

So when he excels, he excels enchantingly
