يا شِراعاً وَراءَ دِجلَةَ يَجري

في دُموعي تَجَنَّبَتكَ العَوادي

O sail behind the Tigris flowing

In my tears, the paths avoided you

سِر عَلى الماءِ كَالمَسيحِ رُوَيداً

وَاِجرِ في اليَمِّ كَالشُعاعِ الهادي

Walk on the water steadily like Christ

And flow in the sea like the guiding ray

وَأتِ قاعاً كَرَفرَفِ الخُلدِ طيباً

أَو كَفِردَوسِهِ بَشاشَةَ وادي

And come to the ground, fragrant like eternity

Or like its paradise, a happy valley

قِف تَمَهَّل وَخُذ أَماناً لِقَلبي

مِن عُيونِ المَها وَراءَ السَوادِ

Stop, wait, and take safety for my heart

From the eyes of temptation beyond the gloom

وَالنُواسِيُّ وَالنَدامى أَمنِهِم

سامِرٌ يَملَأُ الدُجى أَو نادِ

And the forgetful and the regretful, give them safety

A night companion fills the darkness or a friend

خَطَرَت فَوقَهُ المِهارَةُ تَعدو

في غُبارِ الآباءِ وَالأَجدادِ

Above it the skill strode

In the dust of ancestors and forefathers

أُمَّةٌ تُنشِئُ الحَياةَ وَتَبني

كَبِناءِ الأُبُوَّةِ الأَمجادِ

A nation that builds life and constructs

Like the building of glorious fatherhood

تَحتَ تاجٍ مِنَ القَرابَةِ وَالمُل

كِ عَلى فَرقِ أَريحِيٍّ جَوادِ

Under a crown of kinship and kingdom

On the heads of an Arabian steed

مَلك الشَطِّ وَالفُراتَينِ وَالبَط

حاءِ أَعظِم بِفَيصَلٍ وَالبِلادِ
