العلم والبر هذا مهرجانهما

في ظل دار تناغى النجم أركانا

Knowledge and virtue, this is their festival

In the shadow of a house whose pillars are stars

فقم إلى منبر التاريخ محتفلا

فقد تضوّع كالعودين ريحانا

So rise to the pulpit of history celebrating

For it has blossomed like two sweet basil plants

واجز الجزيل من المجهود تكرمة

واجز الجزيل من الموهوب شكرانا

Give generously of great effort as a gift

And give generously of great talent as gratitude

في محفل نظمت دار الجلال به

نظم الفرائد أفرادا وأعيانا

In a gathering the House of Majesty organized

Where pearls of poetry were strung as individuals and notables

لما تألف عقدا قال قائله

يصوغ للمحسنين الحمد تيجانا

When a necklace came together its speaker said

It forms for the benefactors praise as crowns

أثاره الحق حتى قام ممتدحا

كما أثار رسول الله حسانا

Raised by truth until standing praising

As the Messenger of God raised Hassaan

عز الشعوب بعلم تستقل به

يا ذل شعب عليه العلم قد هانا

The pride of nations is through knowledge by which they gain independence

Oh how degraded a people whom knowledge has spurned

فعلموا الناس إن رمتم فلاحهم

إن الفلاح قرين العلم مذ كانا

So teach people, if you desire their success

For success has been the twin of knowledge since they both existed

لا تُطر حيا ولا ميتا وإن كرما

حتى ترى لهما بالخلق إحسانا

Do not find fault with one living or dead, even if generous

Until you see in their manners benevolence

ليس الغِنى لفتى الأقوام منبهة

إذا المكارم لم ترفع له شانا

Wealth is no mark of excellence for the youth of nations

If virtues do not raise his status

وإن أبرك مال أنت تاركه

مال تُورِّثه قوما وأوطانا

The most blessed wealth you leave behind

Is wealth you bequeath to a people and homelands

سل الأُلى ضيع الضيعات وارثهم

هل يملكون ببطن الأرض فدانا

Ask the lofty ones who squandered fortunes, their inheritors

Do they possess in the earth’s belly even a plot?

قل للسراة المنوفيين لا برحوا

للفضل أهلا وللخيرات عنوانا

Tell the affluent travelers, do not stop

Being worthy of virtue and charity’s domain

يا أفضل الناس في الإيثار سابقة

وأحسن الناس في الإحسان بنيانا

O finest of people in competing to give

And most excellent of people in building goodwill

وهبتمو هِبة للعلم ما تركت

بالبائسين ولا الأيتام حرمانا

You have given a gift to knowledge leaving

Neither the destitute nor orphans deprived

قلدتمو المعهد المشكور عارفة

لم يألها لكم التعليم عرفانا

You have honored the esteemed institute, recognizing

It never ceased to teach you gratitude

يد على العلم يمضى في إذاعتها

حتى تسير بها الأجيال ركبانا

A hand extended to knowledge, it continues spreading

Until generations ride its wave

بيضاء في يومه خضراء في غده

إذا هي انبسطت في الأرض أفنانا

White today, green tomorrow

When it unfurls upon the earth like grasses
