1. لا يُقيمَنَّ عَلى الضَيمِ الأَسَد

    نَزَعَ الشِبلُ مِنَ الغابِ الوَتَد

    The lion does not dwell on injustice

    The cub pulled out the peg from the forest

  2. كَبُرَ الشِبلُ وَشَبَّت نابُهُ

    وَتَغَطّى مَنكِباهُ بِاللُبَد

    The cub grew up and his fangs sharpened

    And his shoulders were covered with fur

  3. اِترُكوهُ يَمشِ في آجامِهِ

    وَدَعوهُ عَن حِمى الغابِ يَذُد

    Leave him to roam in his dens

    And stop him from protecting the forest

  4. وَاِعرُضوا الدُنيا عَلى أَظفارِهِ

    وَاِبعَثوهُ في صَحاراها يَصِد

    Show him the world through his claws

    And send him to wander in its plains

  5. فِتيَةَ الوادي عَرَفنا صَوتَكُم

    مَرحَباً بِالطائِرِ الشادي الغَرِد

    Young men of the valley, we know your voice

    Welcome O melody singing bird

  6. هُوَ صَوتُ الحَقِّ لَم يَبغِ وَلَم

    يَحمِلِ الحِقدَ وَلَم يُخفِ الحَسَد

    It is the voice of truth, it did not transgress or

    Bore malice, nor hid envy

  7. وَخَلا مِن شَهوَةٍ ما خالَطَت

    صالِحاً مِن عَمَلٍ إِلّا فَسَد

    And it is free from any desire that corrupts

    A righteous deed except that it fails

  8. حَرَّكَ البُلبُلُ عِطفَي رَبوَةٍ

    كانَ فيها البومُ بِالأَيكِ اِنفَرَد

    The nightingale stirred the branches of a willow

    Where an owl in solitude perched

  9. زَنبَقُ المُدنِ وَرَيحانُ القُرى

    قامَ في كُلِّ طَريقٍ وَقَعَد

    The lily of cities and the basil of villages

    Stood at every road and settled

  10. باكِراً كَالنَحلِ في أَسرابِها

    كُلُّ سِربٍ قَد تَلاقى وَاِحتَشَد

    Early like bees in their swarms

    Each swarm gathered and came together

  11. قَد جَنى ما قَلَّ مِن زَهرِ الرُبا

    ثُمَّ أَعطى بَدَلَ الزَهرِ الشُهُد

    It reaped little of the flowers’ nectar

    Then gave instead honey

  12. بَسَطَ الكَفَّ لِمَن صادَفَه

    وَمَضى يَقصُرُ خَطواً وَيَمُد

    It reached out to whoever it met

    Walking with short and long strides

  13. يَجعَلُ الأَوطانَ أُغنِيَتَه

    وَيُنادي الناسَ مَن جادَ وَجَد

    Making countries into its songs

    And calling people, those who give and find

  14. كُلَّما مَرَّ بِبابٍ دَقَّهُ

    أَو رَأى داراً عَلى الدَربِ قَصَد

    Knocking on every door it passes

    Or heads towards any house on the road

  15. غادِياً في المُدنِ أَو نَحوَ القِرى

    رائِحاً يَسأَلُ قِرشاً لِلبَلَد

    Walking in cities or towards villages

    Going asking for coins for the country

  16. أَيُّها الناسُ اِسمَعوا أَصغوا لَهُ

    أَخرِجوا المالَ إِلى البِرِّ يَعُد

    O people, listen and pay attention to it

    Bring out money for this goodness that counts

  17. لا تَرُدّوا يَدَهُم فارِغَةً

    طالِبُ العَونِ لِمِصرٍ لا يُرَد

    Do not send back its hands empty

    The seeker of help for a country that matters

  18. سَيَرى الناسُ عَجيباً في غَدٍ

    يَغرِسُ القِرشُ وَيَبني وَيَلِد

    People will see wonders tomorrow

    The coin will plant, build, and give birth

  19. يُنهِضُ اللَهُ الصِناعاتِ بِهِ

    مِن عِثارٍ لَبَثَت فيهِ الأَبَد

    God will make industries rise through it

    From ruin that lingered forever

  20. أَو يَزيدَ البِرَّ داراً قَعَدَت

    لِكِفاحِ السُلِّ أَو حَربِ الرَمَد

    Or increase goodness by a house that settled

    Due to the struggle of poverty or the fight of distress

  21. وَهوَ في الأَيدي وَفي قُدرَتِها

    لَم يَضِق عَنهُ وَلَم يَعجِز أَحَد

    And it is within hands and in its ability

    No one was too narrow or incapable for it

  22. تِلكَ مِصرُ الغَدِ تَبني مُلكَها

    نادَتِ الباني وَجاءَت بِالعُدَد

    That is tomorrow's Egypt building its reign

    It called the builder and came with supplies

  23. وَعَلى المالِ بَنَت سُلطانَها

    ثابِتَ الآساسِ مَرفوعَ العَمَد

    And it built its rule on money

    With strong foundations and raised pillars

  24. وَأَصارَت بَنكَ مِصرٍ كَهفَها

    حَبَّذا الرُكنُ وَأَعظِم بِالسَنَد

    And it made the bank of Egypt its cave

    The cornerstone blessed and supremely supported it

  25. مَثَلٌ مِن هِمَّةٍ قَد بَعُدَت

    وَمَداها في المَعالي قَد بَعُد

    An example of ambition that reached far

    With its horizons far in the heights

  26. رَدَّها العَصرُ إِلى أُسلوبِهِ

    كُلُّ عَصرٍ بِأَساليبَ جُدُد

    The age returned it to its ways

    Every age has its renewed methods

  27. البَنونَ اِستَنهَضوا آبائَهُم

    وَدَعا الشِبلُ مِنَ الوادي الأَسَد

    The young roused their fathers

    And the cub called the lion from the valley

  28. أَصبَحَت مِصرُ وَأَضحى مَجدُها

    هِمَّةَ الوالِدِ أَو شُغلَ الوَلَد

    Egypt became and its glory dawned

    The ambition of the father or the occupation of the son

  29. هَذِهِ الهِمَّةُ بِالأَمسِ جَرَت

    فَحَوَت في طَلَبِ الحَقِّ الأَمَد

    This ambition yesterday flowed

    Seeking truth with great determination

  30. أَيُّها الجيلُ الَّذي نَرجو لِغَدٍ

    غَدُكَ العِزُّ وَدُنياكَ الرَغَد

    O generation we hope for tomorrow

    Your glory tomorrow and prosperity today

  31. أَنتَ في مَدرَجَةِ السَيلِ وَقَد

    ضَلَّ مَن في مَدرَجِ السَيلِ رَقَد

    You are on the staircase of a flood, and indeed

    Lost is one who sleeps on the staircase of a flood

  32. قُدتَ في الحَقِّ فَقُد في مِثلِهِ

    مِن نَواحي القَصدِ أَو سُبلِ الرَشَد

    Lead in truth, so lead in its like

    From the ways of moderation or paths of righteousness

  33. رُبَّ عامٍ أَنتَ فيهِ واجِدٌ

    وَاِدَّخِر فيهِ لِعامٍ لا تَجِد

    Many a year you will find

    And store in it for a year you will not find

  34. عَلِّمِ الآباءَ وَاِهتِف قائِلاً

    أَيُّها الشَعبُ تَعاوَن وَاِقتَصِد

    Teach the fathers and proclaim saying

    O people, cooperate and be economical

  35. اِجمَعِ القِرشَ إِلى القِرشِ يَكُن

    لَكَ مِن جَمعِهِما مالٌ لُبَد

    Gather coin to coin, it will become

    For you from their gathering a plentiful money

  36. اُطلِبِ القُطنَ وَزاوِل غَيرَهُ

    وَاِتَّخِذ سوقاً إِذا سوقٌ كَسَد

    Seek cotton and do other

    And make a market if a market is impeded

  37. نَحنُ قَبلَ القُطنِ كُنّا أُمَّةً

    تَهبِطُ الوادي وَتَرعى وَتَرِد

    We before cotton were a nation

    Descending valleys, grazing and returning

  38. قَد أَخَذنا في الصِناعاتِ المَدى

    وَبَنَينا في الأَوالي ما خَلَد

    We took the lead in industries

    And built in ancient times what lasted

  39. وَغَزَلنا قَبلَ إِدريسَ الكُسا

    وَنَسَجنا قَبلَ داوُدَ الزَرَد

    And we spun before Idris the linen

    And wove before David the armor

  40. إِن تَكُ اليَومَ لِواءً قائِداً

    كَم لِواءٍ لَكَ بِالأَمسِ اِنعَقَد

    If you are today a leading banner

    How many banners for you in the past rallied
