إلى ذاتِ السَّلاسِلِ مِن بَليِّ
وعُذْرَةَ فَامْضِ بُورِكَ مِن مُضِيِّ
To the one bound in chains from faraway lands
And from Ankara's plains proceed with thy bands
تَدَفَّقْ بالأُلى جاشَتْ قُواهُم
إليكَ تَدَفُّقَ السَّيْلِ الأتِيِّ
Like floods unleashed thy warriors advance
As torrents rush to thee in swift cadence
إلى قومٍ من الأعداءِ تُطوَى
جَوانِحُهُم على الدّاءِ الدَوِيِّ
To a people whose foes enclose them round
Whose breasts with malice and envy abound
تَألَّبَ جَمعُهُم من كلِّ أَوْبٍ
يُحاوِلُ بالسّيوفِ حِمَى النَّبيِّ
Their hordes gather enraged from every dune
With swords to assault the Prophet's commune
أهزلٌ من قُضاعةَ أم خيالٌ
غَوِيٌّ جَالَ في جَوٍّ غَوِيِّ
Are they ghosts of Quda’ah or a fancy of the mind
Deluded visions in hazy climes entwined
تَوَلَّى الكفرُ أمرَ القومِ فيه
فسوفَ يَرَوْنَ عاقِبَةَ الوَليِّ
The unbelievers have left the people's cause
And soon the Guardian's might they shall pause
جَمعتَ لحربهم يا عمروُ بأساً
يُزلزِلُ كلَّ جَبارٍ عتِيِّ
You gathered against them mighty warriors, Amr
To shake the foundation of each tyrant cur
رأيتَ جُموعَهم شتَّى فهذا
رَسولُكَ جاء بالمَدَدِ القويِّ
You saw their disjointed crowds and hither
Your messenger brought tidings of help to proffer
عليه أبو عُبَيْدَةَ في سلاحٍ
يَمُجُّ عُصارَةَ الموتِ الوَحِيِّ
With Abu Ubayda outfitted for war
The essence of death flows from his mighty roar
نَهاهُ مُحمّدٌ عن كلِّ أمرٍ
تَضِيقُ بهِ وما هو بالعَصِيِّ
Muhammad ordered him be patient awhile
Lest haste bring woe, he is no disobedient child
يُنازِعُكَ الإمامَةَ ثم يَرْضَى
وتِلكَ سَماحةُ الخُلُقِ الرَّضِيِّ
He disputes not your leadership, then agrees
Such is the nature of one worthy to please
رَميتَ الكافِرينَ بكل ماضٍ
مِنَ الأبطالِ يَعصِفُ بالرَّمِيِّ
You pelt the unbelievers with surging attack
Heroes unleashing fury that nothing can turn back
فزالوا عن حظائِرِهِم سِراعاً
ولم تُغْنِ الرِّباقُ عن الشَّوِيِّ
In panic they fled their encampments away
No steed could save them from their woeful day
تَوَاصَوْا بالثَّباتِ فَزَلزَلْتُهُم
صَوَاعِقُ ما تَكُفُّ عَنِ الهُوِيِّ
In place they stood hoping to withstand the wave
But thunderbolts fell which no man could brave
هُوَ البأسُ اسْتَطَارَ فلا ثَباتٌ
لِغيرِ السَّيفِ والبطَلِ الكَمِيِّ
Alas no stand can mortal make against the storm
Save the stalwart hero gripping sword in arm
قَضَيْتَ السُّؤْلَ من قَتلٍ وغُنْمٍ
وَنِلْتَ ذُؤابَةَ الشَّرفِ العَلِيِّ
You gained your full due of plunder and blood feud
And won high honor - glory's greatest meed
وكنتَ القائدَ الفَطِنَ المُلَقَّى
فُنونَ المكرِ والكَيْدِ الخَفِيِّ
The prudent commander of guile and cunning
Master of secret stratagems so stunning
مَنعتَ النّارَ خِيفةَ أن تُعَرَّى
جُنودُكَ شِيمَةَ الحَذِرِ الذّكِيِّ
You held back fire lest your warriors lose
Their prudent caution - a general should choose
تُدافِعُ دُونَ عِدَّتِهم عَدُوّاً
تُخادِعُهُ عنِ الأمرِ الجَلِيِّ
To shield their weakness from the scheming foes
And not play open where deceit forebodes
ولم تَتْبَعْ قضَاعَةَ إذ تَوَلَّتْ
وإذ ذَهَلَ الصَّفِيُّ عَنِ الصَّفِيِّ
You did not pursue the routed Quda’ah flight
When Safiy fled betraying honor's light
تُقَاتِلُها بسيفٍ من دَهاءٍ
يُمزِّقُها بِحَدٍّ لَوْذَعِيِّ
With sword of clever feint you continue to smite
Rending them with keen and subtle might
رَمى الفاروقُ من عَجَبٍ بقولٍ
يُثيرُ حَمِيَّةَ الرَّجُلِ الأبِيِّ
The Valiant Ali made audacious remark
Kindling the pride in chests that nobly mark
فقال له أبو بكرٍ رُوَيْداً
ولا تَعْدِلْ عَنِ السَّنَنِ السَّوِيِّ
But Abu Bakr gently bade him slow his tongue
And keep to virtuous ways that rightly belong
رسولُ اللهِ أكثرُ مِنكَ عِلماً
بِصاحِبِهِ ولستَ لهُ بِسِيِّ
The Prophet knows his companions well, far more than you
You are no match to him in wisdom true
وما للحربِ إلا كلُّ طَبٍّ
يُصرِّفُها برأيٍ عَبْقَرِيِّ
War is not won but by minds strategic
That guide all matters with vision prophetic
أميرَ الجُندِ يا لكَ من سَرِيٍّ
أصابَ إمارةَ الجُندِ السَّرِيِّ
Prince of the forces, a mystery you remain
To command unseen soldiers your glory and gain
مَشَى الصِّديقُ والفاروقُ فيه
على أدبٍ من الخُلُقِ السَّنِيِّ
The Truthful and the Valiant in you found
Embodiment of manners perfectly sound
وهل يُقضَى على اسمِ اللهِ أمرٌ
فَيُنكِرُهُ التَّقِيُّ على التَّقِيِّ
Can God’s affair ever be undone, nay
The righteous cannot let the righteous stray
إذا استوتِ المراتِبُ وَهْيَ شَتَّى
فما فضلُ اللَّبيبِ على الغَبِيِّ
If stations equaled though they are not thus
What distinguishes the wise man from the foolish
أجَلْ يا عمروُ ما بِكَ من خَفَاءٍ
إذا فَزَعَ الرجالُ إلى الكَفِيِّ
Indeed O Amr no secrecy in your repute
When men recoil, to the brave they depute
شَأوتَ السّابِقينَ إلى مَحَلٍّ
يُجاوِزُ غايَةَ الأمَدِ القَصِيِّ
You surpassed the early vanguard to heights unknown
Beyond the farthest goals that heroes have shown
وذلك فضلُ ربِّكَ زِيدَ فيهِ
على يدِهِ لِذِي الجَدِّ الحَظِيِّ
Such is the blessing of your Lord bestowed through you
Upon the scion of fortune - honor his due
شَأوتَ السّابِقينَ إلى مَحَلٍّ
يُجاوِزُ غايَةَ الأمَدِ القَصِيِّ
You surpassed the early vanguard to heights unknown
Beyond the farthest goals that heroes have shown
وذلك فضلُ ربِّكَ زِيدَ فيهِ
على يدِهِ لِذِي الجَدِّ الحَظِيِّ
Such is the blessing of your Lord bestowed through you
