1. Rejoice: what you asked for has been granted

    by a Lord who guided you, and you followed His guidance.

  2. You chose it, and among His servants embraced

    the righteous deeds that He approves.

  3. They killed you in that cause, as you drove them from His faith,

    struck down, and kept His sanctuary from profanation.

  4. They wronged you, torturing the body for which

    nothing awaits but honor and bliss.

  5. It was a prayer for you: scarcely had you raised a hand with it

    before God accepted it and answered.

  6. You have seen the hallowed realm of jihad; describe to us

    that sacred realm—how does it look to you?

  7. What of His good pleasure has God rewarded you with,

    and what blessings has He bestowed on you in Paradise?

  8. What has He prepared for every righteous, God-fearing soul?

    Souls went astray, but he obeyed not his desire.

  9. Do you see, servant of God, how high you have attained—

    an honor whose reach even Gemini falls short of?

  10. Your purified blood, if offered to a dying man

    whose cure had baffled physicians, would heal him.

  11. A voice calls out to every heedless people—

    blessed is whoever is granted guidance and heeds it—

  12. proclaiming the meaning of excellence in life; whoever insists

    on nothing but turning away has never grasped its meaning.

  13. The matter depends on earnest resolve; of no avail

    are the weakling’s words: “perhaps” and “maybe.”

  14. Souls suffer—but none so wretched as a loser

    who has preserved neither his faith nor his worldly life.

  15. A man desires life and length of days

    until death becomes his greatest wish.

  16. You have been granted, Muhammad, a radiant victory

    whose brilliance endures through the darkness of the ages.

  17. Yet in the martyrs’ blood is a might without which

    your faith would not have stood exalted upon the earth.

  18. No true leader’s power ever passes away

    without time increasing his strength.
