1. ركَدتَ وَهبّتْ لوعةُ الحُزنِ تَدأبُ

    وَنِمتَ وما نَامَ الحَريبُ المُعذَّبُ

    The grief wells up and sleep evades the troubled warrior

    As you slumber, enemies plot attacks and dangers lurk

  2. أمِن شِيمةِ الأبطالِ أن يبعثوا الوَغَى

    فَإنْ أَوشكتْ أن تَبعثَ النَّصرَ نُكِّبوا

    Is it the way of heroes to unleash mayhem?

    When victory nears, they turn back and flee

  3. بِعينكَ ما تَلْقَى مِن الضَّيمِ أُمَّةٌ

    تَبيتُ بوادي النّيلِ حَيْرَى تَقَلَّبُ

    O eyes! The injustice you see inflicted on a nation

    That tosses and turns in the Nile valley, lost and confused

  4. أَخيذةُ أحداثٍ تَظلُّ غُزاتُها

    مُظفَّرةً أَبْطالُها ما تُخيَّبُ

    Buffeted by shocking events, its raids ongoing

    Its heroes victorious, never defeated

  5. جَرَتْ بارحاتُ الطيرِ ترمي رَجاءَها

    بأَسحمَ ما ينفكُّ حرّانَ يَنعبُ

    The migrating birds wing closer, hoping for respite

    From the searing heat that persists, ever blazing

  6. أَلاَ قَدَرٌ للهِ يجرِي سَنيحُه

    بحاجاتها أو آيةٌ منه تُكتَبُ

    Alas! It is God's decree that runs its course

    Meeting its needs, or a sign from Him that's prescribed

  7. لَعمرُ الأُلَى هانتْ عليهم صُدوعُها

    لقد غَالَها الصدَّعُ الذي ليس يُرأَبُ

    By the exalted ones, their wounds seemed trivial

    So deep are the rifts that cannot be repaired

  8. إذا هي جدََّتْ تطلبُ الحقَّ ردَّها

    مُعنّىً بإدمانِ الأباطيلِ يلعبُ

    When serious about reclaiming its rights

    Misled by the practice of empty lies and play

  9. تورّعَ يستهوِي الحُلومَ فأَقبلتْ

    جَماهيرُها تستنُّ أَيّانَ يَذهبُ

    Restraint was shunned and base desires indulged

    Its masses awaited a chance for excess and escape

  10. فلمّا ارْتَمتْ ملءَ العِنانَيْنِ خَالَها

    عَصافيرَ تُزْجَى أو قواريرَ تُجلَبُ

    Once the reins were seized by the heedless libertines

    Songbirds to be caged, or vials brought near and imbibed

  11. وأعرضَ يَقضي حاجةَ النّفسِ لا يَرى

    لها حاجةً مِن دُونِ ذلكَ تُطْلَبُ

    Indifference reigned as selfish desire was fulfilled

    With no other needs, it seemed, left to be sought

  12. يُعلّمها أن تجعلَ الغَدْرَ مَركباً

    إذا لم يكن مِن صالحِ البرِّ مَركبُ

    Teaching that betrayal should be the vessel

    When righteousness fails as a means of transport

  13. كذلكَ يُعدِي المرءُ أخلاقَ قَوْمِه

    وَيهدِمُ مِنها مَا بَناهُ المُؤَدِّبُ

    Thus one corrupts the morals of his people

    And demolishes what was built by the righteous

  14. سَلُوا مِصرَ إذ أَوْدَى فَتاها المُحبَّبُ

    أَمَا انْصرفَتْ آمالُها وهي نُحَّبُ

    Ask Egypt, when its beloved young were destroyed

    Did its hopes not fade, and its tears not flow?

  15. وَحُوطوا حِمَى الإِسلامِ إنّي أخافُها

    كتائبَ شتَّى حَوله تَتألَّبُ

    Guard the bastion of Islam, for hordes I fear

    Will gather, ready to pounce and attack

  16. لقد كان مِلءَ المشرقَيْنِ كِلاءةً

    إذا انبعَثتْ أو أمسكتْ تترقَّبُ

    Once it filled the two horizons with its glory

    When roused or restrained, all trembled in wait

  17. تَجولُ المنايا حَولها كُلَّما ارْتَمتْ

    قَذائفُ مِنه جُوَّلُ الهَوْلِ جُوَّبُ

    Death encircled it whenever it tried to rise

    Missiles unleashed creating a maelstrom of dread

  18. دَعَوْتُ الأمينَ الحرَّ دعوةَ مُشفْقٍ

    يرى دولةَ الأحرارِ في مِصرَ تُنكَبُ

    I summoned the Guardian, the noble and free

    To see Egypt’s state overturned and collapse

  19. مَنايا غَلَبْنَ البأسَ يَعصِفُ بالقُوى

    وأهواءُ دُنيا هُنَّ أقوى وأغلبُ

    Death has overcome might, violently lashing

    Worldly passions now stronger and more forceful

  20. تَتابعَ أبطالُ الجهادِ وَغُودِرَتْ

    بَقايا سُيوفٍ في يدِ اللهِ تَضرِبُ

    The warriors of jihad follow in succession

    Relics of swords in God’s hands continue to strike

  21. تَقَرُّ العَوادِي حين يَهتاجُ سِربُها

    وتَرْضَى السّماواتُ العُلىَ حين تَغضبُ

    The wild beasts settle when their packs are roused

    The heavens satisfied when angered and provoked

  22. تَصونُ جَلالَ الدّينِ والدّينُ يُزْدَرَى

    وتَحمِي لِواءَ الحقِّ والحقُّ يُسلَبُ

    It defends the glory of the faith as faith is scorned

    It protects the banner of truth as truth is usurped

  23. أقَامَ الهُدَى أَعلامَهُ في ظِلالِها

    فما فيهِ للغاوي المُضلِّل مَأربُ

    Guidance has planted its flags in its shades

    No path for the misguided misleader’s desires

  24. دَوافعُ لِلجُلَّى سَواطعُ في الدُّجَى

    طَوالعُ للسَّارينَ والشُّهبُ غُيَّبُ

    Beacons in the darkness, radiant in the gloom

    Rising for the travelers as comets fade from sight

  25. مَنعنا بها عِرضَ الكِنانةِ إنّه

    بِمَجْرَى السَّنا منها مُقيمٌ مُطنَّبُ

    We forbade it from exposing itself in dishonor

    For its course is upright, well-paved and direct

  26. يَضيقُ به الخَصمُ اللَّجوجُ فيرعوي

    ويرتدُّ عنه الطامحُ المُتَوثِّبُ

    It frustrates the stubborn adversary, who then desists

    And thwarts the ambitious clamoring climber’s ascent

  27. يَرى الدّهرُ أن يَبتزَّهُ وهو مُشفِقٌ

    ويُغرِي به أحداثَه وَهْيَ هُيَّبُ

    Fate desires to bait it while it remains vigilant

    Tempting it with events while itself alarmed and wary

  28. وإنّا لَنَأْبَى أن نرى مِصرَ عَوْرةً

    نُسَبُّ بها في العَالَمينَ ونُثْلَبُ

    We refuse to see Egypt exposed and shamed

    Linked to it, we gain esteem, while it is disparaged

  29. أَنترُكُها نَهْبَ المُغيرينَ إنّنا

    لَتُنكِرُنا آباؤنا حِينَ نُنْسَبُ

    Shall we leave it to marauders as prey? We cannot

    Our forefathers would reject us if we stayed indifferent

  30. أَنحنُ بنو القومِ الأُلىَ زَلزلوا الدُّنَى

    وثَلّوا العُروشَ الشُّمَّ أم نحن نكذبُ

    Are we the sons of lofty folk who shook the world

    And toppled the highest thrones, or are we lying?

  31. أرَى المرءَ يأبى أن يُقارِفَ خُطَّةً

    تنكَّبَها مِن قبلِ أن يُولدَ الأبُ

    I see one shun repeating a shameful act

    Avoided before his father was even born

  32. هَلُمّوا شَبابَ النّيلِ فالبِرُّ أوجَبُ

    أَمِن حَقِّهِ أن تنعموا وهو مُتْعَبُ

    Come forth, Nile youth! Duty demands

    Is it just to enjoy while others toil in pain?

  33. هَلُمّوا إلى البيضاءِ إن رَابَ مَذهبٌ

    وأُمُّوا سَواءَ الأمرِ إن مَالَ أَنْكَبُ

    Come to the shining light if the path seems murky

    Steady the course if tilting and leaning askew

  34. هَلُمّوا فَصُونوا للِكنانةِ مَجْدَها

    وكونوا لها الجُندَ الذي ليس يَرهبُ

    Come, protect its glory, be the army it needs

    That fears no adversity, refuses to withdraw

  35. أَقيموا على الأخلاقِ بُنيانَ عِزِّها

    فقد هَجَعَ الباني وهَبَّ المُخرِّبُ

    Build on its morals the foundation of its might

    The builder has rested while the destroyer persists

  36. بكيتُ على الماضينَ من شُهدائِكم

    يُباعُ الدَّمُ المسفوكُ مِنهم وَيُوهَبُ

    I weep for your fallen martyrs, their spilled blood

    Sold off cheaply or gifted away as charity

  37. قَرابينُ رِيعَتْ في مَحاريبِ قُدْسِها

    وما بينها جانٍ ولا ثَمَّ مُذنِبُ

    Sacrifices made in its holy sanctuaries

    With no sinner or criminal in their midst

  38. تَنَاسَى حُماةُ النّيلِ أيّامَ قُرِّبَتْ

    فضاعتْ غَواليها وضَاعَ المُقَرِّبُ

    The Nile’s defenders forget days when brought near

    Its treasures are lost and the giver deprived

  39. بُهِتُّ فما أدري أَماءُ مِرَشَّةٍ

    يُراقُ جُزافاً أم دَمٌ يَتصبَّبُ

    I’m shocked - are these offerings of shame?

    Blood spilled recklessly? My doubts persist

  40. رَثَى الأُسْرُبُ الجاني لِفرطِ هَوانِها

    على القومِ واسْتَحيا السِّلاحُ المُخَضَّبُ

    The flocks blamed the hunter for bringing dishonor

    The weapon that dripped felt too ashamed to persist

  41. وَأصبحَ راميها تلوحُ شُخوصُها

    فَيأْسَى وتشكو ما دهاها فَيحدَبُ

    Its archers’ forms now appear downtrodden

    Despairing, complaining of the humiliation and defeat

  42. لَئِنْ عَجِبَ الأقوامُ مِن سُوءِ صُنعهِ

    لَصُنعُ الأُلىَ حَالوا عَنِ العهدِ أَعجبُ

    If nations are shocked by such improper conduct

    The exalted ones’ betrayal was more shocking still

  43. مَضوا هَدَراً مِثلَ الرّياحينِ غالَها

    وَشيكُ الرَّدى أو هُم أبرُّ وأطيبُ

    They left hastily like gusts of wind, their glory diminished

    Near destruction, unless more righteous and pure

  44. فَمِن لاعجٍ للوجدِ يُذكيه لاعجٌ

    وَمِن صيِّبٍ للدّمعِ يُزجيهِ صَيِّبُ

    So who will rekindle the passions when passions wane?

    Who will draw out the tears when sadness grows numb?

  45. ضحَايا من الأبرارِ ضَجَّتْ قُبورُها

    فَضَجَّ المُصلَّى واْقشعرَّ المُحصَّبُ

    The tombs of martyrs roar with victims' cries

    The mosques roar, those prostrating shudder cold

  46. هَلُمّوا شَبابَ النّيلِ لا تَتَهيَّبوا

    فقد نَشطَ الدّاعي وجَدَّ المُثوِّبُ

    Come forth, Nile youth! Do not recoil in fear!

    The caller is vigorous, the rewarder bounds ahead

  47. هو الحقُّ ما عن نَهجهِ مُتحوَّلٌ

    لِمَنْ يبتغِي المُثلىَ ولا منه مَهربُ

    The truth never swerves from its approach

    For those seeking ideals, with no escape

  48. أجيبوا سِراعاً إنّها ساعةُ الوَغَى

    وإنّا لَنخشَى أن يطولَ التأهُّبُ

    Respond quickly! The time for mayhem is now!

    We dread procrastination and delays

  49. إذا السّيفُ أمضَى في الكتائبِ حُكمَهُ

    فماذا عَسَى يُغنِي الكميُّ المُجرِّبُ

    When the sword strikes the battalions with its rule

    What can shields do? Experts can confirm

  50. إلينا شَبابَ النّيلِ لا تَعْدِلوا بنا

    فلا القاعُ غَرّارٌ ولا البرقُ خُلَّبُ

    Nile youth! Do not compare us to others

    The plains are not treacherous, the lightnings not false

  51. إلى أُمَّةٍ تُلقِي إليكم رَجاءَها

    إذا هَاجَها يومٌ مِن الشَّرِّ أشهبُ

    To a nation placing its hopes in you

    Whenever a terrible day threatens and looms

  52. عَرفنا لها ما جَلَّ من حُرُماتِها

    فَلا نَحنُ نُؤذيها ولا هِيَ تَعتِبُ

    We know its sacrosanct rights and abstain from harm

    It does not blame us, nor we finding fault

  53. أُولئكَ أعلامُ الجهادِ فَكبِّروا

    وَتلكَ أناشيدُ البلادِ فَأَوِّبوا

    Those were the flags of jihad, so celebrate!

    These were the anthems of the land, so sing aloud!
