1. إليك أبا سُفيانَ لا الوعدُ صادقٌ

    ولا أنت ذو جِدٍّ ولا القومُ أبطالُ

    To you, O Abu Sufyan, neither promise is truthful

    Nor are you a man of valor, nor are the people heroes

  2. أتاك ابنُ مسعودٍ بأنباءِ يثربٍ

    فما تنقضي منكم همومٌ وأوجال

    The son of Mas'ud has brought you news of Yathrib

    Yet worries and sorrows do not cease among you

  3. لكم عند بدرٍ في لواء محمدٍ

    خطوبٌ تَرامَى بالنّفوسِ وأهوال

    At Badr, under the banner of Muhammad

    Are calamities that target lives and terrors

  4. هنالك قومٌ يا ابن حربٍ كأنّهم

    إذا عَصفتْ ريحُ الكريهةِ أغوال

    There, O son of Harb, are people who when

    The wind of hatred blows are ferocious lions

  5. جُنودٌ عليها من عليٍّ مُظَّفرٌ

    لدى الرَّوْعِ جيّاش على الهَوْلِ جَوّالُ

    Soldiers victorious through Ali,

    Fierce in the heat of battle, brave amid horrors

  6. دَع المرءَ يذهبْ بالأباطيلِ مُرجِفاً

    وَعِدْهُ جزاء الإفكِ لا حبّذا المال

    Leave a man to spread lies fearfully

    And promise him the reward of slander is not wealth

  7. تَردّدَ يخشى منك شِيمَة مُخلِفٍ

    يقولُ فلا وَعدٌ وَفِيٌّ ولا قال

    He hesitated, fearing you would blame a deserter

    Saying there is neither a true promise nor good faith

  8. تمسَّك من قولِ ابن عمروٍ بمَوْثِقٍ

    وطارت به في الجو هوجاء مجفال

    Hold on to the secure pledge of Ibn Amr

    And it carried him through the air angrily buzzing

  9. مضى يصف الكفار وصف مهول

    يقولُ جموعٌ ما تُعَدُّ وأرسال

    He went on portraying the infidels with terrible detail

    Saying countless hordes and detachments

  10. فما وجفت تلك القلوبُ ولم تكن

    كأخرى لها من هَدَّةِ الرُّعبِ زلزال

    Yet those hearts were not shaken, nor were they

    Like others whose souls trembled with fear

  11. رِجالٌ رسا الإيمانُ مِلءَ نُفوسهم

    فلا الجبنُ مَنجاةٌ ولا البأسُ قَتَّال

    Men sincere in faith, their souls overflowing with it

    So neither is cowardice an escape, nor valor a killer

  12. ولا الموتُ مكروهٌ على العزِّ وِردُه

    ولا العيشُ مورودٌ إذا خِيفَ إذلال

    Nor is death unwanted if honor demands it

    Nor life desired if humiliation is feared

  13. تَداعَوْا فقالوا حسبُنا اللهُ إنّه

    لِما شاءَ من نصرِ الهُداةِ لَفعّال

    They called out: God is enough for us, He

    Does what He wills to grant victory to the guided

  14. وأرسلها الصِّدِّيقُ دِيمةَ حِكمةٍ

    لها من فمِ الفاروقِ سَحٌّ وتَهطال

    And the Truthful One sent it—a wise old she-camel—

    Spewing from the mouth of the Farouq torrentially

  15. محمدُ إنّ اللّهَ ناصرُ دينِهِ

    ومُظهِرهُ والحقُّ أقطعُ فَصّال

    Muhammad, God is the supporter of His religion

    And its manifester, and the Truth is the clearest separator

  16. لهم مَوعِدٌ لا بدّ منه ومَورِدٌ

    من الحتفِ تغشاهُ نفوسٌ وآجال

    They have an inevitable appointment and destination

    Of death engulfing souls and lifetimes

  17. عَزيزٌ علينا أن تكونَ مَقالةً

    يُردّدُها قومٌ مَهاذيرُ جُهَّالُ

    It pains us that it becomes an oft-repeated saying

    Repeated by foolish ignorant people

  18. يقولون لولا الخوفُ منّا لأقبلوا

    وإنَّا لإقدامٌ حثيثٌ وإقبال

    Who say “If not for fear of us, they would have advanced

    While we are the fierce, attacking ones”

  19. وخفَّ أبو سُفيانَ يكذبُ نفسَهُ

    ويُشهِدُها من خيفةٍ كيف يحتال

    And Abu Sufyan lay, denying himself

    And making himself bear witness to his fear and plotting

  20. يقول وقد وافى الرجالُ مَجنَّةً

    أيا قومنا مهلاً فإنّا لَضُلّال

    Saying “The men have come upon trouble

    Oh people, wait! We are lost”

  21. أيا قومنا إنّا نرى العامَ مُجدِباً

    وشرُّ عَتادِ الحربِ حَدبُ وإمحال

    Oh people, we see the year is unfruitful

    And the worst equipment for war is emaciation and hardship

  22. فعودوا إلى عامٍ من الخصبِ صالحٍ

    ولا تقربوا الهيجاءَ فالقومُ أصلال

    So return to a prosperous, fertile year

    And do not approach these chaotic people

  23. تَقّدمَ جيشُ اللّهِ وارتدَّ جيشُهم

    وما فيه أكفاءٌ تُهابُ وأمثال

    The army of God advanced and their army retreated

    And none remain who can be feared and equaled

  24. وأين من الصّيدِ المصاليتِ معشرٌ

    لهم من مواليهم لدى البأسِ خُذّالُ

    And where are those hunted allies whose

    Supporters have, in times of valor, been slaughtered

  25. لبئس الموالي ما تَزالُ تغرّهم

    ظنونٌ كأحلامِ النّيامِ وآمال

    Evil are those allies who still fool them

    With delusions like a dreamer’s hopes

  26. ألا إنَّها الدنيا أُعِيدَ بناؤها

    وَصِيغَ لها رسمٌ جديدٌ وتمثال

    Behold, it is rebuilt, the world given

    A new design and form unlike before

  27. فلا شأنُها الشأنُ الذي كان يرتضِي

    بَنُوها الأُلى بادوا ولا حالُها الحال

    No longer the way its ancient people wished

    They are gone and it is not as it was

  28. عفا السّالفُ المغبَرُّ من سيِّئاتها

    فتلك بقاياها قبورٌ وأطلال

    The past is buried in its evil

    A ruin and relic of crumbled walls

  29. أتبقى قلوبُ النّاسِ في ظُلماتها

    تَظاهرُ أكنانٌ عليها وأقفال

    Can people’s hearts remain in its darkness?

    With veils and locks preserving its idols

  30. هو النّورُ نورُ اللّهِ يملأُ أرضَه

    فتلقَى الهُدى فيه عصورٌ وأجيال

    It is the light, the light of God, filling His land

    So generations find guidance within it

  31. أتى مطلقُ الأسرى يُحرِّرُ أنفساً

    لها من سجاياها قيودٌ وأغلال

    The emancipator of captives has come to free souls

    From the fetters and shackles binding them
