1. لِمَنْ تَجمعُ الُّرومُ أبطالها

    وتحملُ للحربِ أثقالَها

    To whom do the Romans gather their heroes,

    And carry for war their burdens,

  2. أللجاعِلينَ نُفوسَ العبادِ

    وَدائِعَ يَقْضونَ آجالَها

    For those who take the souls of slaves,

    And they fulfill their terms.

  3. إذا استعجلوها ببيضِ الظُّبَى

    فلن يملكَ القومُ إمهالَها

    If they hasten with the eggs of the youngster,

    Then the people will not be able to delay it.

  4. جُنودٌ تُقدِّمُ أرواحَها

    وتَبذلُ في اللهِ أموالَها

    Soldiers who sacrifice their souls,

    And spend in God their monies.

  5. لئن جاوزَتْ غايةَ العاملين

    لقد بَارَكَ اللهُ أعمالها

    If it exceeded the goal of the workers,

    God has certainly blessed their deeds.

  6. وَمَنْ مِثلُ عُثمَانَ يَرْعَى النُّفوسَ

    إذا آدَها الأمرُ أو عَالَها

    And who is like Uthman who pastures the souls,

    If the matter is restored or it declines.

  7. كثيرُ النَّوالِ رَحِيبُ المجالِ

    إذا رَامَ مَنزلةً نالَها

    Abundant grace, vast range,

    If he seeks a position, he attains it.

  8. أبا بكرٍ اخْترتَ أبقى الثراء

    وجَنَّبتَ نَفْسَكَ بَلبالَها

    O Abu Bakr, you chose the most lasting wealth,

    And spared yourself its ordeals.

  9. تَمنَّيتَها نِعمةً سمحةً

    فألبَسَكَ اللَّهُ سِرْبَالَها

    You wished it a generous grace,

    So God clothed you in its robe.

  10. وإنّ لِصحبِكَ في الباذلين

    مَناقِبَ نُدمِنُ إجلالَهَا

    And your companions among the spenders,

    Have merits whose majesty we revere.

  11. ألحَّ النِّساءُ على حَلْيهِنّ

    وأقبلنَ في ضَجّةٍ يا لها

    The women insisted on their jewels,

    And came out making a great commotion.

  12. نَبِيَّ الهُدَى أتُلِمُّ الحقوقَ

    فنأبَى ونُؤثِرُ إهمالَها

    O prophet of guidance, we forfeit rights,

    And prefer to neglect them.

  13. وتذهبُ منّا ذَواتُ الحِجالِ

    تُجرجِرُ في الحيِّ أذيالَها

    And the ornamented ladies among us,

    Drag their trains in the alley.

  14. لقد طافَ طائِفُها بالفتاةِ

    فأرَّقها ما عَنَا آلها

    The handsome young man passed by the girl,

    So she was sleepless for what her family caused.

  15. فما أمسكَ البُخلُ دُمْلُوجَها

    ولا مَلَكَ الحِرصُ خلخَالَها

    Neither miserliness withheld her wrists,

    Nor did greed restrain her anklets.

  16. مشَى الجحفلُ الضَّخمُ في جحفلٍ

    يُحِب الحُروبَ وأهوالَها

    The huge army marched in battalion,

    Loving wars and their horrors.

  17. وخافَ من الحرِّ أهلُ النِّفاقِ

    فقالوا البيوتَ وأظلالَها

    And the hypocrites feared the heat,

    So they said, “the homes and their shades.”

  18. وأهْلَكَهُمْ شَيْخُ أشياخِهم

    بِشَنعاءِ يَأثَمُ مَن قَالها

    And their elder sheikh destroyed them,

    With evil for which whoever says it sins.

  19. بَني الأصفر استبِقوا للوغى

    وخَلُّوا النُّفوسَ وآمالها

    O clans of Asfar, hasten to the fight,

    And set your souls and hopes free.

  20. وقفتم من الرُّعبِ ما تُقدمون

    وما هَاجتِ الحربُ أغوالَها

    You stopped because of the terror you advance,

    And war did not stir its gluttons.

  21. فكيف بكم بَيْن أنْيَابِها

    إذا جَمَع اللَّهُ آكالَها

    Then how would you be among its fangs,

    When God gathers its eaters?

  22. رأى عُمَرٌ رأيَهُ في الرَّحيلِ

    فلا تُكْثِرِ الرُّومُ أوجالَها

    Umar saw his view in departure,

    So the Romans will not increase their terms.

  23. لهم دَونَ مَهلكِهمْ مُدّةٌ

    مِنَ الدّهرِ يَقضونَ أحوالَها

    For them before their destruction,

    Is a period of time they fulfill.

  24. تَبوكُ اشْهَدِي نَزَواتِ الذّئاب

    وحَيِّ الأسودَ وأشبالها

    O Tabuk, witness the descents of the wolves,

    And the dens of lions and their cubs.

  25. أما يَنبغِي لكِ أن تَعرفِي

    شُيوخَ الحُروبِ وأطفالها

    Should you not recognize,

    The elders of war and their boys?

  26. هي المِلَّةُ الحقُّ لن تَستكين

    ولن يدَعَ السَّيفُ أقتَالَها

    It is the true nation, it will not be submissive,

    And the sword will not cease its fighting.

  27. رأتْ ملّةَ الكُفرِ تغزو النُّفوس

    فجاءَتْ تُمزِّقُ أوصالَها

    It saw the nation of disbelief attacking souls,

    So it came tearing its limbs apart.

  28. لها من ذويها حُماةٌ شِداد

    يُبيدونَ مَن رامَ إذلالَها

    It has fierce defenders from its people,

    Who exterminate those who sought to humiliate it.

  29. فلن يَعرِفَ النّاسُ أمثالَهم

    ولن يَشهد الدّهرُ أمثالَها

    People will not know their like,

    And time will not witness their equal.

  30. ولن تَستبينَ سَبيلُ الهُدَى

    إذا اتَّبعَ النَّاسُ ضُلَّالها

    And the path of guidance will not be distinct,

    If people follow its misguidance.

  31. فَمَنْ كانَ يُحزِنُه أن تَبِيد

    قُوَى الشّركِ فَلْيَبْكِ أطلالَها

    So whoever is saddened if the powers of polytheism are destroyed,

    Let him weep over its ruins.

  32. لأهلِ المُفَصَّلِ من آيهِ

    مَوَارِدُ يُسقَوْنَ سِلْسَالَها

    For the people of the detailed Book, from His verses,

    Are springs from which they drink its chains.

  33. تردُّ القُلوبَ إلى ربِّها

    وتَفتحُ للنُّورِ أقفالَها

    It returns the hearts to their Lord,

    And opens for the light its locks.
