مِنكَ الحنينُ ومنه ما هو أَعظَمُ
لو يَستطيعُ أتاكَ لا يتلوَّمُ
From you comes yearning, and from it what is greater,
If only he could come to you, he would not waver.
البيتُ أنتَ به أحق وإن أبَى
من أهلِ مَكةَ جاهلٌ لا يعلمُ
The house is yours by right even if
An ignorant person from Makkah refuses to know.
ما أصدقَ الرُؤيا وأقربَ حِينَها
فاصبِرْ على ثقةٍ وربُّكَ أكرم
How true the dream and how near its time,
So be patient with confidence, and your Lord is Most Generous.
إن يَخْلُ منها اليومُ فالغدُ بعده
بالخيرِ والرضوانِ منها مُفعَمُ
If today is empty of it, then tomorrow after it
With good and acceptance from it is filled.
سِرْ يا رسولَ اللَّهِ جُندُكَ باسلٌ
وقُواكَ مُحْصَدَةٌ ورَأْيُكَ مُحكم
Go, O Messenger of Allah, your troops are resolute
And your strength is reaped, and your view decisive.
آثرتَ رَبَّكَ وحده لا تَشتكِي
فيهِ من الأهوالِ ما تَتجشم
You preferred your Lord alone, you do not complain
From the terrors, however much you endure.
وَمضيتَ مُعتمِراً بِصحبِكَ مُحرماً
والهَدْيُ حالٍ بالقلائدِ مُعْلَمُ
And you went, determined, on pilgrimage with your companions, consecrated,
And the sacrifice, adorned with collars, marked.
والمؤمناتُ الصَّالحاتُ كأَنَّما
فيهن سَارَةُ والرضيَّةُ مَريَم
And the virtuous faithful women are as though
Among them are Sarah, pleasing, and Mary.
من كلِّ أُمٍّ بَرَّةٍ لم يُلهِهَا
بَعْلٌ ولم يَغْلِبْ نوازعها ابْنَمُ
From every caring mother not distracted by
A husband, nor overcome by her sons' defiance.
يا طِيْبَ ما لَبَّيتَ رَبَّكَ إنّه
لَلحقُّ يُزلِفُهُ فُؤادُكَ والفم
How good is what you declared to your Lord, He
Is truth who draws your heart near and your speech.
أين الشَّريكُ لمن تَصرَّفَ وحده
في مُلكِهِ أَمَّنْ سِواهُ المُنعِم
Where is the partner for Him who controls alone
His kingdom? Or who other than He grants favor?
لَبَّيْكَ رَبِّي إن قَضيتَ لنا الهدى
فَكِتابُكَ الهادي وأنتَ المُلْهِم
At Your service my Lord, if You have decreed guidance for us
Then Your book guides, and You inspire.
تلكم قُريشٌ أقبلتْ في غَضبةٍ
مَشبوبةٍ وحميَّةٍ تَتضرّم
There, Quraysh came angrily
Agitated and zealous, wrinkling their noses.
قالت أيدخلُها علينا عَنْوَةً
السَّيفُ أولَى أن يُحكَّمَ والدَّم
They said, "Shall we let him enter it over us by force
When the sword is more deserving to arbitrate and shed blood?"
وَرَوى ابنُ سُفيانَ الحديثَ فلو دَرى
لُغةَ السُّيوفِ لَخَالها تَتَكلّم
And Ibn Sufyan narrated the news, and if only he knew
The language of swords, he would have thought them speaking.
أَصغتْ إليه فلم يَقِرَّ بغمدِه
منها على طولِ التحلّمِ مِخْذَم
They listened to him, and none rested in its sheath
For long because of his hesitation, except the broken one.
يَجِدُ التقاةُ المحرمونَ ولا كما
يَجِدُ التقيُّ من السُّيوفِ المُحْرِمُ
The violators find violators, not like
The reverent find from swords that show reverence.
أبدتْ تَباريحَ الهُمُومِ شديدةً
وأَشدُّ منها ما تُجِنُّ وتَكْتُمُ
It showed the agonies of deep sorrows
And more intense than it is what it hides and conceals.
وَدَّتْ لَو اَنَّ اللَّهَ قالَ لها اضرِبي
فَمضتْ تُظلِّلها النسورُ الحُوَّمُ
It wished that Allah said to it "Strike!"
So it went, shaded by hovering vultures.
قال النبيُّ أَنَتَّقيها خُطَّةً
هي ما علمتم أم نَجِدُّ وَنُقدِمُ
The Prophet said, "Do you fear for me a plot
That you know of, or shall we be firm and lead?"
فأجابه الصِّدِّيقُ بل نمضي إلى
ما كنتَ تنوِي بالخروجِ وتعزم
The Truthful answered him, "Rather, we will go on
To what you intended by going out and resolved."
وَرَمَى بها المقدادُ خُطبةَ مُؤمنٍ
يَرمي الخطوبَ بنفسِهِ لا يُحجِم
And al-Miqdad threw a believer's challenge
Who throws challenges with his soul, and does not refrain.
ومضوا يرون المشركين بذي طوى
والخيلُ شتَّى والخميسُ عَرَمْرم
They took the rugged road whose light shines
While the dark road misguided others.
أَبِلالُ أَذِّنْ للصّلاةِ فإنّها
أسنى وأشرفُ ما يُحبُّ المسلم
They said, "We will be humiliated and made low," and swore
To abandon the ideals, wretched is the oath!
نَهَضَ النبيُّ يُقيمها في صحبهِ
للَّهِ تُبْدأُ بالخشوعِ وَتُختَم
Messages came one after another, so among them is a deserter
Seeking corruption, and a cautious one dreading blame.
وأعدَّ طائفةً تقومُ فتتَّقي
كيدَ العدوِّ إذا يَكرُّ ويهجم
And the fickle one does good one time
And evil another, so his conversation limps.
حتى إذا سَجَدَ الرفاقُ تخلَّفوا
عنهم فَضُوعِفَ أجرُهم والمغنم
Al-Mughirah struck his hand, and if not for
Patience, his wrist would have flown off from the blow.
جيشُ الهدى واليُمنِ عند جلالِهِ
بِيَمينِ قائدِهِ يُصَفُّ وَيُنظَمُ
He did not stop striking him with the hilt of his sword
While the sword frowned, and death showed restraint.
جَعَلَ ابنَ بِشرٍ في الجهادِ لخالدٍ
يَلقاهُ إن جَمعَ الفوارسَ مَأزِمُ
You have transgressed, Urwah, so be just, and restrain a hand
That slaps the eminent and angers the stoic.
سلكوا الطريقَ الوعرَ يَسطعُ نُوره
وأضلَّ غيرَهم الطريقُ المُظلِمُ
How did you climb to a sublime position that
Even the stars, if made a ladder, do not reach?
قالوا أَنذعِنُ صاغِرينَ وأقسموا
أن ينبذوا المثلى فبئس المَقْسم
By the honored Mukhtar’s beard, it is held back
For it is protected in the sanctuary and guarded.
وتتابعتْ رُسُلٌ فمنهم غادِرٌ
يَبغي الفسادَ وحَاذِرٌ يتأثّم
You spoke well in blaming those you blamed
And those who rebelled refused, so you are blamed.
ومُقَسَّمُ الأخلاقِ يُحسِنُ مَرّةً
وَيُسِيءُ أخرى في الحوارِ فَيعرم
They fault you when you spoke the truth in ignorance,
Is one who refuses hypocrisy and bonding to blame?
أهوى عَلى يدهِ المغيرةُ ضارباً
لولا الأَناةُ لطار منه المِعْصَمُ
Al-Hulays spoke the truth so they blamed him harshly
While the people blame the wise and insightful one.
ما انفكَّ يضربُه بِمقبضِ سَيْفِهِ
والسَّيفُ يُغضِي والمنيّةُ تَحلم
The guided ones sent guidance, then came
Facing a concern that distresses and pains.
أسرفتَ عُروَةُ فاقتصِدْ واقبضْ يَداً
رِيعَ السِّماكُ لها وَغِيظَ المرزمُ
They came disheveled, raising to their Lord
A voice the deaf and mute repeats.
كيف ارتقيتَ إلى محلٍّ ماله
راقٍ ولو أنّ الكواكبَ سُلّم
So his feelings shook, and he said in sorrow
Glory to my Lord! What is for us to do wrong?
أبِلحْيَةِ المختارِ تُمسك إنّها
لَتُصانُ في حَرَمِ الجلالِ وَتُعصَم
Glory to Him! The most hostile to His house
We would then be wrongful people, and oppressive!
أحسنتَ قولَكَ في الذين ذَممتَهم
وأَبَى الذين طَغَوْا فأنتَ مُذمَّم
O Lord of the ignorant ones who became gods
Who do not follow the path of people gone astray.
عَابوكَ إذ قُلتَ الصَّوابَ جَهالةً
أَيُعابُ مَن يأبى النِّفاقَ ويُوصَمُ
Quraysh discarded his view and grew arrogant
And misguidance is the most distressing that I knew and ill-omened.
صَدَقَ الحُلَيْسُ فأوجعوه ملامةً
والقومُ لِليَقِظِ المُسَدَّدِ لُوَّم
Go, Kharrash, to Quraysh advising
Perhaps it will want right, so it understands.
بَعثَ الهُداةُ الهَدْيَ ثُمَّتَ أقبلوا
يلقونه فعناه هَمٌّ مؤلم
They hamstrung your camel resentfully and almost
Killed you, if only they had not avenged!
جاءوه شُعْثاً يرفعون لربّهم
صوتاً يُردِّدُه الأصمُّ الأبكم
If not for the ignorant ones, the wrong done by them
Would shed from him blood that is not made permitted.
فَهَفَتْ جَوانِحُه وقال على أسىً
سُبحانَ ربِّي ما لنا نَتجرَّم
The son of Uthman went to them seeking
To give priority to the view that is wiser.
سُبحانه أنصدُّهم عن بيتِهِ
إنّا إذاً قومٌ نَجورُ ونظلم
But they refused and said no liberation for you, and we
Are not the lowest, refusing humiliation, to be subjugated.
مولى الأحابيشِ الذينَ تألّهوا
لا يتبعون سبيلَ أقوامٍ عَمُوا
Detain him, they said, with three of his companions
And pelt them, condemned, splitting open.
نبذتْ قريشٌ رأيَهُ واستكبرتْ
والغَيُّ أنكدُ ما علمتُ وأشأمُ
Did they not consider the messenger of the Prophet and his in-laws?
Indeed, minds on the sickbed are fruitless.
اذهب خراشُ إلى قريشٍ ناصحاً
فلعلّها تبغي الصَّوابَ فتفهم
Ibn Hasan crept in the darkness so a
Wakeful one like the sentry startled him.
عقروا بَعيرَكَ ناقِمِيْنَ وأوشكوا
أن يقتلوك فليتهم لم يَنقِموا
Ibn Musallamah rode off abandoning his companions
And went away, and the coward did not turn back.
لولا الأحابيشُ استُحِلَّ بظلمهم
منه دَمٌ ما يُستحَلُّ مُحرَّم
They came to the camp, forty led
By prisoners, marked for humiliation.
ذَهَبَ ابنُ عفّانٍ إليهم يَبتغِي
أن يؤثروا الرأيَ الذي هو أحزم
And the archers came so there penetrated in their guts
An arrow that humbles arrows when they shatter.
فأبوا وقالوا لا فكاكَ لكم وما
نحن الألى نأبى الهوانَ فَنُرْغَمُ
Sorrow prevented and healed their killed one's
Heartache over a complaint from Quraysh stifled.
هُمْ أمسكوه ثلاثةً في صحبه
ورموا بها مَلمومةً تتقحَّم
The most wretched harm and betrayal stirred their men
And captivity flowed to them, an ill-omened bird.
أفلا رَعَوْا رُسُلَ النبيِّ وَصِهْرَهُ
إن العقولَ على المراسِ لتعقم
They fell, so the view of the people is what they find
And the martyr of truth is sufficient in what he attains.
دَبَّ ابنُ حصنٍ في الظلامِ فراعه
يقظانُ مثل الصلِّ ليس يُهوِّم
Quraysh sent: Release our companions
And take the hostages and prisoners among you.
حمل ابنُ مُسلمةٍ فغادرَ صحبَه
ومضَى فلا رَجَعَ الجبانُ الأيهم
They were shocked with a catastrophe whose crack intensified
If not for the foolishness of their view, they would not have been shocked.
جاؤوا المعسكرَ أربعينَ يقودُهم
أَسْرَى عليهم للمذلّةِ ميسَمُ
If not for Suhayl's plea that guided them
There is might that humiliates armies and demolishes them.
وأتى الرّماةُ فجال في أحشائهم
سَهمٌ تظلُّ به السهامُ تُحطَّم
Evil is the fate of a people who refuse guidance
White, its features, and excellent the arrival!
مَنعَ الأسَى وشَفى كُلومَ قتيلهِم
شكوى قلوبٍ من قريشٍ تُكْلَم
O you who left tyranny, your grandfather frowns
Come, so your grandfather smiles, arriving.
أشقَى الأَذى والغَدرُ جَدَّ رجالِهم
وَجَرَى لهم بالأسرِ طَيْرٌ أسحم
It is the right of the Owner of the Two Lights to leave the gloom
Wretched, its face slapped, and frowning.
سقطوا فحسبُ القومِ ما يجدونه
وكفى شهيدَ الحقِّ ما يَتَسنَّمُ
Is it to you the blind stretched their claws?
So look at the claws, see how they are blunted.
بَعَثَتْ قُريشٌ أطلِقوا أصحابنَا
وخذوا الرهائنَ والأُسارَى مِنكمُ
It is the Pledge of Approval, they left no
Night to sleep, nor morning to rest.
صُدموا بقارعةٍ تَفاقَم صَدعُها
لولا سفاهةُ رأيهم لم يُصدَموا
A dejection that pains the eyes, saddening,
And a sorrow that bites at hearts, poisoning.
لولا الضّراعةُ من سُهَيْلٍ هَدَّهُمْ
بأسٌ تُهَدُّ به الجنودُ وَتُهدَمُ
So it is as if in every eye is an icy coldness
And as if in every heart a disease that pains.
بئس المآبُ لعصبةٍ تأبى الهُدَى
بِيضاً مَعالمُه ونعمَ المقدم
The Muslims pledge allegiance to their Prophet
Clinging to a bond that cannot be undone.
يا تاركَ الطغيانِ يَعبسُ جَدُّه
أقبلْ فَجدُّكَ مُقْبِلٌ يتبسَّم
They do not consider the blood of one striving wasted
To them, if it is not shed, it is as if it is.
من حقِّ ذي النُّوريْنِ أن يَدَعَ الدُّجَى
خَزْيانَ يُلْطَمُ وَجهُه المُتجهِّمُ
If death assembles them, it is a sweet tasting spring
Whose flavor is pleasant to them and food most delicious.
أإليكَ مَدَّ ذوو العَمَى أظفارَهم
فانظرْ إلى الأظفارِ كيف تُقلَّم
God is their Master, and victory for His Messenger
A right upon them in the Scripture decreed.
هي بَيْعَةُ الرضوانِ لم تتركْ لهم
ليلاً يُنامُ ولا صَبَاحاً ينعمُ
They set out energetic, if you saw their groups
You would know which people in faith are foremost.
سُهْدٌ يَشُقُّ على العُيونِ مُبرّحٌ
وأسىً يعَضُّ على القلوبِ مُسمَّم
None but in his hand is a hand
Raised to God, its light contemplated.
فكأنما في كلِّ عينٍ مِبرَدٌ
وكأنّما في كلِّ قلبٍ أَرقَم
They were marked with faith of heart, and it
Is seen over the course of time, so marked.
المسلمون يُبايعونَ نبيَّهم
يَستمسكونَ بعُروةٍ ما تُفصَم
Good company for a people between whom
No animosity turns away, nor wretched one deprived.
لا يحسبون دمَ المُجَاهدِ مَغرماً
هو عندهم إنْ لم يُرِقْهُ المغرم
No glorious treasure hoarded, lofty in station
Except what they hoarded, most excellent and splendid.
إن ضمَّهم عند الشَهادةِ مَورِدٌ
لَذَّ المذاقُ لهم وطابَ المطعم
This is Suhayl, who came carrying their request
And finds fault in what the archers did, regretting,
اللَّهُ مولاهم ونصرُ رسولِهِ
حَقٌّ عليهم في الكتابِ مُحتَّم
And says, leave it O Muhammad, a plot
With which honor is shot, so it tears.
نهضوا خَفافاً لو رأيتَ جُموعَهم
لَعَلِمتَ أيَّ النّاسِ إيماناً هُمُ
We fear disgrace, so let there be between us
A reconciliation we profess, and pact concluded.
ما مِنهمُ إلا على يَدِهِ يَدٌ
للَّهِ ينظرُ نورها المتوسّم
War places on us its burdens
And will return if it gathers pilgrims for the season.
لُثِمَتْ بإيمانِ القلوبِ وإنّها
لَتُرَى على مَرِّ الزَّمانِ فتُلثَم
For you is your weapons, whoever took them as supporter
Seeking safety, or carrying as suspect.
نعم العطاءُ لمعشرٍ ما بينهم
نَكِدٌ يُرَدُّ ولا شَقِيٌّ يُحرمُ
And sheathe your swords in their scabbards, and do not be stingy
With evil, it is repelled, and harm concluded.
ما جلَّ مُدَّخرٌ فَخِيمٌ شأنُهُ
إلا الذي ادَّخروا أَجَلُّ وأفخم
The limit of our stay is three days, so when they finish
They leave our dwellings, and Yathrib, destined.
هذا سُهَيْلٌ جاءَ يحملُ سُؤْلَهم
وَيَعيبُ ما صَنَعَ الرُّماةُ وَيندم
Whoever comes from you is not returned, and whoever comes
From us, then returned to us, submissive.
ويقولُ دَعْهَا يا مُحَمَّدُ خُطّةً
يُرمَى بها الشّرفُ الرفيعُ فيُثلَمُ
This is what we accept, so is there a writer
Who will heal hearts with what he writes and inscribes?
إنّا نخافُ العارَ فَلْيَكُ بيننا
صُلْحٌ نَدِيْنُ بهِ وعهدٌ مُبْرَمُ
The Prophet approved, wanting his Lord's mercy
He is His servant, and He is Most-forbearing, Most-merciful.
الحربُ تُوضَع بيننا أوزارُها
وَتَعودُ إن جَمعَ الحجيجَ الموسمُ
The men shouted, and the Guidance’s Farouq
Was incensed in his coat of mail, piercing.
لكَ من سلاحِكَ ما تَقَلَّدَ مُنجِدٌ
يَبغِي السلامَةَ أو تَزوَّدَ مُتهِم
And he said to the Truthful: Who is he, O Abu
Bakr, and what belief should we mark?
واجعل سُيوفَكَ في الغُمودِ ولا تَضِقْ
بالشرِّ يُدرَأُ والمضَّرةِ تُحسَم
Is he the Messenger, and we follow his religion?
Why then the humiliation, what for us to submit?
حدُّ المُقامِ ثلاثةٌ فإذا انقضتْ
فَدعوا منازِلَنا وَيثربَ يَمِّموا
Softness is the nature of the weak and his habit
And of wonders that the mighty show softness!
من جاءَ منكم لا يُرَدُّ ومن يَجيءْ
مِنّا فمردودٌ إلينا مُسْلَم
Patience, may God guide you, and hold to its knot
If you seek the knot of a rope held fast.
هذا الذي نَرضى فهل من كاتبٍ
يَشفِي الصُّدورَ بما يَخُطُّ ويَرقُم
Congratulations to Abu Bakr! You gave an argument
With which faith was cloven, and you translate!
رَضِيَ النبيُّ يُريدُ رَحمةَ رَبِّهِ
هُوَ عبدُه وهو الأبرُّ الأرحَمُ
And Abu Ubaydah seeking refuge in his Lord
Fearing the indications of its cleaving, unblamable.
صَاحَ الرجالُ وَرَاحَ فاروقُ الهدى
يَهتاجُ في بُرْدَيْهِ فَحلٌ مُقْرِمُ
From al-Farouq an unyielding soul rises
Whose forbidden things, if touched, blaze.
ويقول للصدِّيقِ مَن هو يا أبا
بكرٍ وَأَيَّةَ مِلّةٍ نَترسَّمُ
The Prophet said, enough O Umar! Comply!
For right in its authority cannot be defeated.
أهُوَ الرسولُ ونحنُ نتبعُ دِينَهُ
فَلِمَ الهوانُ وما لنا نَسْتَسْلِمُ
I am pleased, yet you refuse. If you knew
What we love and desire behind us.
اللينُ من خُلُقِ الضَّعيفِ وَدَأْبهِ
وَمِنَ العجائِبِ أن يَلينَ الضَّيغمُ
I am God’s Messenger, lacking no aid from Him
And God plans what He wills and portions out.
مَهْلاً هداكَ اللَّهُ وَالْزَمْ غَرْزَهُ
إن كنتَ تطلبُ خيرَ غَرزٍ يُلزَم
The matter is unseen, no access for the like of you
To its knowledge, and the unseen is a door barred.
إهنأ أبا بكرٍ قَضيتَ بحُجَّةٍ
صَدَع اليقينُ بها وأنتَ مُتَرْجِم
Write, O Ali! You will not see thereafter one transgressing
Except he is reined in by time and restrained.
وأبو عُبيدَةَ إذ يَعوذُ بربّهِ
يَخشى بَوادرَ صَدْعُها لا يُلأم
But Suhayl refused that his scripture have
A permission from prophethood as its header.
يَرقى من الفاروقِ نَفْساً صعبةً
تأبى عَوارِمُها إذا ما تُعْجَم
The Prophet said: Delete “In the name of God” and “Messenger of God”
Do you want it as magic with a spell making sick?
قالَ النبيُّ كفاكَ يا عُمَرُ اتَّئِدْ
فالحقُّ في سُلطانِهِ لا يُهزَمُ
Religion differs, and we have nothing but
What time past has bequeathed us.
أَرْضَى وتأبى أنتَ إنّ وراءَنا
لو كنتَ تعلمُ ما نُحِبُّ ونرأم
So Ali refused what he wanted, and it provoked him
The zeal of the unwilling, whose anger is not suppressed.
إني رسولُ اللَّهِ ليس بِخاذِلي
واللَّهُ يَقْدِرُ ما يشاءُ وَيَقْسِمُ
The Prophet said: Do it, and by its like
Eyes will be pleased, and hot coals doused.
الأمرُ غَيْبٌ ما لمثلِكَ مطمعٌ
في علمِهِ والغيبُ بابٌ مُبْهَم
Ibn Amr looked and saw his son
Seeking the footsteps hurriedly, refusing slowness.
اكتُبْ عَليُّ فلن ترى من جامحٍ
إلا يُزَمُّ على الزّمانِ وَيُخطَم
He said, return him! That is your first term with them
And if you refuse, it is an unfulfilled and incomplete term.
وَأبَى سُهَيْلٌ أن يكونَ كتابُه
سَمْحاً عليه من النبوّةِ رَوْشَمُ
He turned back striking him. What a Muslim you are!
Struck by his father and slapped!
قالَ امْحُ باسمِ اللَّهِ وامْحُ رَسُولَهُ
أَتُريدُها صاباً بِسُمٍّ تُؤدَم
The Muslim’s hearts softened at his speech
So feelings shook and tears streamed.
الدّينُ مختلفٌ وليس لنا سِوَى
ما كان أورثَنا الزمانُ الأقدم
The Prophet held his garment, so he returned him
To build for his nation edifices and support them.
فأبَى عليٌّ ما أرادَ وهاجَهُ
حَرَدُ الأبيِّ فَغيظُه ما يُكظَم
He said, turn back! God guarding you suffices,
Reliance for well-being is a twin.
قال النبيُّ افعلْ وسوفَ بمثلها
تُسْقَى فَتُغْضِي الطَّرْفَ وَهْيَ العلقم
So he went saying, is there no rein on a man
Who seeks escape with his religion, guarded?
نظر ابنُ عمروٍ نظرةً فرأى ابْنَهُ
يَبغِي الخُطَى عَجْلَى ويَأبَى الأدهم
Return to your chains, and be patient! Harm
Is the most damaging the men have tasted, and most painful.
قال ارجعوه فذاك أوّلُ عهدكم
فلئن أبيتم لَهْوَ عَهدٌ أَجْذَمُ
How much gain the guided ones who followed guidance made!
In sanctity annulled, and right trampled!
وانقضَّ يضربُهُ فيا لكَ مُسلِماً
في اللَّهِ يُضربُ من أبيهِ ويُلْطَمُ
Better upon better whose accumulation
Evil upon evil gathered and formed.
رقَّتْ قلوبُ المسلِميْنَ لخطبه
فجوانحٌ تَهفو وَدَمعٌ يَسجُم
The crying one hums, though sorrow reached
Its utmost in him, and the blissful one humming cries.
أَخَذَ النَبيُّ بثوبِهِ فأعادَهُ
يَبْنِي لِأُمَّتِهِ البِنَاءَ وَيَدْعَمُ
They took the document, and it is in their perceptions
Like treasure taken by the destitute pauper.
قال انقلبْ وكَفَى بربِّكَ حافظاً
إنَّ التوكُّلَ للسلامَةِ تَوْأَمُ
They flew joyfully, and between its lines
Folly prominent, of piercing vision.
فمضى يقولُ ألا ذِمَامٌ لامرئٍ
يَبْغِي الفِرارَ بدينهِ يَستَعْصِمُ
A passed victory for the successful honored ones
None passed from them, broken or worn out.
عُدْ في قُيُودِكَ واصطَبِرْ إنّ الأذى
لأضرُّ ما انتجعَ الرجالُ وأوخمُ
Control is not for meteors, they
Judge the necks with reason, and judge.
كم للأُلَى اتَّبعُوا الهُدَى مِن مَغنَمٍ
في حُرمَةٍ تُلغَى وحقٍّ يُهْضَمُ
For tyranny there is a time, then its backbone is severed
And justice a firm backbone, unbroken.
خيرٌ على خيرٍ يَضُمُّ رُكَامَهُ
شرٌّ على شَرٍّ يُضَمُّ وَيُرْكَمُ
And a wedding may be held due to the people’s foolishness
They rejoiced, though more fitting a mourning erected.
يَتَرَنَّمُ الباكي وإن بَلَغَ الأَسى
مِنه ويبكِي النَّاعِمُ المُتَرَنِّمُ
Of the rights of truth that its loyal one
Is supported in harshest accusations, and served.
أخذوا الصحيفةَ فَهْيَ في أوهَامِهم
كالكنزِ يأخذُهُ الفقيرُ المُعْدِمُ
And most deserving to carry the banner, a persevering fighter
Resolute against the terrors of events, determined.
طاروا بها فَرَحاً وبين سُطُورِها
دهياءُ بارزَةُ النَّواجذِ صَيْلَمُ
Grant the rights their due, and be patient, you will succeed
None despaired except one who wearies and tires.
نصرٌ مَضَى لمظفَّرينَ أعزَّةٍ
لم يَمْضِ منهم مَخْذَمٌ أو لَهذَم
This is a system for the people, and approach
Truth a discerner sees, and foreigner.
ليس التَّصَرُّفُ للقواضِبِ إنّها
بالرأيِ تَحكمُ في الرقابِ وتُحكم
The Book was revealed with it, so one guided was certain
And one astray doubted, confused and conflicted.
للبغيِ حِينٌ ثم يُقصَمُ صُلبُهُ
والعَدْلُ صُلْبٌ قائمٌ ما يُقْصَم
Good is the healing guidance, and most wondrous I see
Good by which souls become healthy or sick.
ولقد يُقامُ العرسُ من سَفَهِ الألى
فَرِحُوا وأولى أن يقامَ المأتمُ
من مَكْرُماتِ الحقِّ أنّ وَلِيَّهُ
بأشدِّ ما يُرمَى يُعانُ ويُخدَمُ
وأحقُّ مَن حَمَلَ اللّواءَ مجاهدٌ
ماضٍ على هَوْلِ الخُطُوبِ مُصَمِّمُ
وَفِّ المطالبَ حَقَّها واصبِرْ تَفُزْ
ما خابَ إلا من يَملُّ وَيَسأمُ
هذا نِظامٌ للشعوبِ ومَنهجٌ
حقٌّ يراه فَصِيحُها والأعجم
نزل الكتابُ بِهِ فأيقَنَ مُهتَدٍ
وَارْتابَ ضِلِّيلٌ ولَجَّ مُرَجِّمُ
طِبُّ الهُدى الشّافِي وأعجبُ ما أرى
طِبٌّ تَصِحُّ به النُّفوسُ وتَسْقُمُ
