سألت ذا صمم عن حاله شفقا

فقال لي احمد المولى على الصمم

I asked the deaf man about his state out of compassion,

So he said to me, “Praise God for deafness!”

اني استرحت به من سمع ذي خطل

وذاك من محن الدنيا على الفهم

“Through it I have rested from hearing nonsense,

Which for the wise is one of life's tribulations."
