تبسم ثغر الكون عن طالع السعد

فبشر أهل الأرض بالخير والرغد

The universe smiles at the rising of good fortune

So give glad tidings to the people of goodness and prosperity

وسارت باقطار البلاد بشائر

باعراس انجال العزيز ذوي الجد

And good news has spread in the regions of the country

Of the weddings of the glorious youths, the honorable and noble

محمد توفيق له السعد خادم

واجدر من يؤتى الولاية عن عهد

Mohammed Tawfiq, may he be granted happiness, is the servant

And the most capable to assume rule after the covenant

فإن له حزما وعزما وفطنة

وفضلا وإحسانا يجل عن الحد

For he has wisdom, determination and intellect

As well as superiority and benevolence beyond limit

لقد عرفت منه النقابة في الصبى

كما عرفت منه النجابة في المهد

I recognized in him as a youth chivalry

As I recognized in him as an infant civility

بذاك جرى امر الآله وما لما

يشاء من الأمر المقدر من رد

By that the command of God proceeded and whatever

He wills of the predetermined matter happens

ومنهم حسين ذو المعارف والحجى

تدور مساعيه على محور الرشد

And of them is Hussein of knowledge and argument

His efforts revolve around the axis of righteousness

تقلد تفتيش الأقاليم أولا

تقلد ندب ليس يبقى على جهد

He assumed supervision of the provinces first

Then assumed appointment without remainder of effort

ومن بعدها الأوقاف مع خطتين من

نظائرها قدرا فحسبك من جلد

And after that endowments with two plans the like of

Which is destiny so that is enough example of skin

فسنى لها وجه السداد وزانها

كما ازدان جيد المرأة الخود بالعقد

So he exemplified for it the way of integrity and balanced it

As the neck of a woman is adorned with a necklace

جلاء الفتى في منتضاه رئاسة

يليها وإلا فهو كالسيف في غمد

The splendor of the young man for presidency

Otherwise he is like a sword in its sheath

وثالثهم رب النهى حسن له

محامد عند الإنكليز بلا عد

And the third is the Lord of prohibition, Hassan who has

Praises with the English without count

له بلسان القوم اعذب منطق

فتحسبه من مورد العرب الشهدي

He has the sweetest eloquence of the people so you'd think

He is from the source of the Arabian nectar

أجلته أملاك الفرنج لأن رأوا

شهامته أنموذج الأب والجد

The possessions of the Franks made him eminent because they saw

His valor an example of his father and grandfather

تقربهم عين العزيز اذا راى

محامدهم في الناس قدوة مقتد

The sight of the glorious brings him close when he sees

Their praise among people an exemplary model

فروع على اصل المكارم قد نمت

فصار لها ظل على الخلق ذو مد

Branches have grown on the origin of nobility thus it has

A shadow over the people of great width

فمن عائد من دهره بفنائهم

ومن شاكر نعمى وقته من الاد

So whoever expects in his time their absence

And whoever is thankless for the bounty of his time is ungrateful

بدور كمال في المعالي طوالع

الى مغنم الدنيا وما بعدها تهدى

With the cycles of perfection in glories rising

To the profitable worldly and of what comes after guided

نجوم هدى ما ان يغيب لها سنا

اذا غاب نور النجم عن عين مستهدى

Stars of guidance not disappearing for them

If the light of a star disappears from the sight of one guided

ولو لم يكونوا انجما ما تحملوا

عن الوطن المانوس يوما اسى البعد

And if they were not stars they would not have borne

Far from the familiar homeland a single melancholy day

كذلك ابناء الملوك نراهم

يجولون اقصى الصين والسند والهند

Thus the sons of kings we see them

Traveling the far ends of China, Sindh and India

فهل كان من يقرو البلاد تعرفا

كمن لا يرى منها انيسا سوى هند

Is one who visits countries to get to know them

Like one who does not see a familiar soul in them but India

وشتان ما بين امرئين تبادرا

الى فهم معنى ما يشوق من النهد

And what a difference between two men who embarked

To understand the meaning of what excites from the breast

هم السادة الغر الذين تبوأوا

من العز ما تعنو له سطوة الاسد

They are the esteemed strangers who have assumed

From glory what the authority of lions demands

هم الافضلون الاكملون مناقبا

يطوف من غور ثناهم الى نجد

They are the most superior and perfect in merits

Circling from exploring their nature to conviction

ففي كل فن بان منهم براعة

وفي كل فضل ادركوا غاية القصد

So in every art a skill manifested from them

And in every merit they attained the purpose

لعمرك لو رب الخديو بفضله

رقيقا لفاق ابن الاماجد في المجد

By your life even if the Lord educated a commoner in his grace

He will surpass the son of nobles in glory

فكيف وهم من صلبه ولديهم

مشايخ علم من ذوي الحل والعقد

So how when they are from his lineage brought up for them

Are sheikhs of knowledge from the people of reason and contract

واثن على المفضال طوسون نجل من

توفى سعيدا وهو في جنة الخلد

And lament for Al-Mufaddal Tusun son of who

Passed happily while he is in paradise eternal

لقد شب في حجر العزيز وبره

فانزله في الحب منزلة الولد

He grew up in the lap of the glorious one so he made him

In love the station of a son

وفي مدح ابراهيم نجل شقيقه

مجال لراوي الصدق او حسن السرد

And in praising Ibrahim son of his brother

Is an opportunity for the honest narrator or good writing

تحرى رضى الرحمن في كل ما نوى

فكان الذي يخفى كمثل الذي يبدى

He strove for the contentment of the Merciful in everything he intended

So that which is hidden is like that which appears

وهل لي ان انسى فريضة مدحة

لمنصور الشهم الهمام وذا وردى

And do I not have an obligation to praise

The one who is brave, determined and rosy cheeked

لئن فات قبل الآن عيد زفافه

ففي كل يوم عيد شكرانه عندي

If missing his wedding has passed before

In every day I thank him it is celebration for me

أياديه مصداق على ما رووا لنا

عن الكرماء الأولين م الشكد

His hands realizing what was told to us

Of the generous predecessors and integration

تعلمنا والله ان كيف ينيغي

لنا ان نصون النفس عن ارب مرد

They taught us by God how it befits us

To protect the self from much rejection

فما الشعر ما اعياك في الليل نفده

ولكن ما اغناك في الصبح بالنقد

So poetry does not run out for you at night its resource

But what will make you rich in the morning with cash

يفيدك من قبل السؤال فسل به

خبيرا ولا يضللك عنه امرؤ بعدي

It benefits you without asking so ask Him

An expert and let no person misguide you after me

فذلك بحر في المكارم زاخر

فمن كان منه غارفا فهو ذو تلد

For that is an ocean abundant in bounties

So whoever draws from it has legacy

ولو لم يكن الا سماحة خلقه

لقلنا تعالى الله خالق ذا الفرد

And if it were not but generosity of manner

We would say exalted is God the Creator of that uniqueness

فهذا الذي ان قلت اطريه فالورى

معي وعلى الذنب ان لم اقل وحدي

This is what if I profess his nobility so the intimidated

Are with me and upon the sin if I do not profess alone

وامدح ابراهيم نجل العزيز من

ترعرع في حب العلى صادق الود

And I praise Ibrahim son of the glorious one who

Was raised in the love of the Sublime truthful in affection

تحلى بآداب الشيوخ ولم يزل

صباه بمنأى عن حلى زغب الخد

He wore the manners of sheikhs and did not cease to

Distance his youth from the adornment of fleeting pleasure

فيا رب صنهم اجمعين وصن لهم

مربيهم ما طاب نشر من الورد

So oh Lord protect them altogether and protect for them

Their tutor whatever fresh flowers have spread

وابق لنا ام العزيز التي لها

فواضل تجرى في البلاد على وخد

And keep for us mother of the glorious one who has

Rivers flowing in the countries calmly

لها البر والتقوى شعار وانه

لا ظهر من فند واشهر من بند

For her are righteousness and piety symbols and indeed

Nothing surfaced mightier than landmarks

مصون على طول الزمان حجابها

ومعروفها في معرض البذل للوفد

Protected throughout the ages her cover

And her reputation in generosity to delegations known

أنالت بني الآمال ما شيدوا به

بيوتا وربوا من بها دون ما كد

She attained for the sons of hopes what they built with

Homes and nurtured from it without hardship

ففي كل قلب شكرها ودعاؤها

احب الى الوسنان من لذة الرقد

So in every heart is gratitude to her and prayers for her

More beloved than the bliss of rest

ولو كل انثى اوتيت عشر ما لها

من الراي عاشرن الرجال على جهد

And if every female was given a tenth of what she has

Of wisdom she'd lead men with effort

ولم تلف في قيد التزوج زاهدا

على ان جل الناس فيه ذوو زهد

And she did not wear the shackle of marriage indifferent

To most people in it being ascetics

فطوبى لمن القى الرجاء ببابها

ومن باياديها على الدهر يستعدى

So blessing to whoever casts hope at her door

And by her hands seizes the days

بايامها الغراء مصر تتوجت

بتيجان اعراس متممة النضد

With her virtuous days Egypt was crowned

With crowns of perfected weddings

رعى الله ايام العزيز فانها

مواسم افراح وجدوى لمستجد

It flirted before and after the wedding so it is a maiden

Who coquettishly has two Niles adhered to it

واعظم ما يصبى الفؤاد ثناؤه

وذكر معاليه الذ من الشهد

One Nile of water and one Nile of affluence

So neither barrenness melts it nor harm distresses it

وتكرير ما اجدى واسدى من اللهى

فذلك احلى في اللهاة من القند

Clouds but it uncovers adversity relaxed

It builds what is desolate, plain and barren

اشادة بيت واحد في مديحه

يشاد بها بيت من الحجر الصلد

Swords which from its chest have emerged for it is not in its name

Oh or Haa, they shaded under gowns

دليل على توحيد من برا الورى

تفرده بالمكرمات عن الند

And it is strange if an unbeliever guides you

To the benefit for if you transfer him he returns to disbelief

فلا جور في حكم ولا ميل عن على

ولا سأم من بذل ولا خلف في وعد

Unless the people are not ruled by a leader of resentment

Who is made self-sufficient when he drinks O Malik of Eid

وما هو باللاهي وحاشاه ساعة

عن الدين بل فيه له داب ذي جد

Nor one who purifies himself while he is incapable

Nor one who deems the praiseworthy deed is in the cold

يرى مشفقا لينا على اوليائه

ولكن على الاعداء اصعب مشتد

Nor one who imagines pride is in conceitedness

And vanity so if you ask him he turns yellow like skin

يعز علينا ان نودى شكره

بلفظيه به شكر لآخر قد ادى

As if creation burdened with his loyalty

So what else but to say to it, it is beneficial

ولكن في اللفظ اشتراكا كما اتى

سميوه لم يهدوا الانام لما يهدى

He says I am the guide of humanity and their imam

Then in no time he claims he is the rightly guided

زهت مصر في ايامه فهي غضة

تبرج من قبل الزفاف ومن بعد

And not one who narrated two verses pampered

Over it and in what his lip tasted of the sweetness of love

وفاخرت الدنيا بنيلين احدقا

بها نيل ماء ثم نيل من الرفد

Warning us of his love in his passion

And warning us of the harms from his contagious disease

فلا الجدب يذوبها ولا ضير يعترى

مرابعها من طارى العسر والنكد

But not one who liberates a slave is his generosity

And builds homes which non-existence has erected with ruin

غمام ولكن يكشف الضر سحه

فيعمر ما في الحزن والسهل من جرد

And one who the people have slept safely during his protection

In security, comfortable living and he is wakeful

حسام بنو من سينه ليس في اسمه

او الحاء منه ظللوا تحت افرند

And that by your life is the habit of my father redeemer

And no man strays from what he gets accustomed to

وانكر شيء ان يؤمك جاحد

لجدوى فان تنقله عاد الى الجحد

Can the radiant sun be denied in the morning

Except by the blind or its brilliance dimmed except by cataracts

الا لا يسود الناس مالك قينة

تغنيه اذ تسقيه يا مالك العيد

May Allah not be unless it is a privilege

And a merit for an ocean taken granted over rugged

ولا من يزكى نفسه وهو عاجز

ولا من برى ان المحاسن في البرد

And that the thriving kingdom be firmly established

Safeguarded without need for other than his soldiers

ولا من يخال الفخر في عنجهية

وزهو فان يسأل تغضن كالجلد

It is enough for his enviers that upon hearing

Praise of his glories they melt from sadness

كأن البرايا كلفت بولائه

فما هو الا ان يقول لها جدوى

They would love if deaf when they hear of him

So what is their situation to look at what enrages

يقول انا هادي الورى وامامهم

فعما قليل يدعى انه المهدى

By your life the essence of envy when

It feels a heart in which it resides like harvest

ولا من روى بيتين في ذي تدلل

عليه وفيما شفه من ضنى الوجد

So you do not see from an envier but a transgressor

When the envied one is mentioned pains his liver

يحذرنا من حينه في غرامه

وينذرنا الآفات من دائه المعدي

Their souls are sacrificed for him but they

Have rested so they are not worth being ransomed

ولكنما من يعتق العبد جوده

ويبني بيوتا سامها العدم بالهد

And if the one who counts his gifts were

To be rewarded, rewards cease at burial

ومن في حماه قد انام الانام في

امان وعيش ناعم وهو في سهد

Though they missed a bird, seeing the bait

Distracts the soul from that loss

وتلك لعمري عادة لابي الفدا

وما لامرئ عما تعود من صد

As they are like statues, pictured

Inscription neither repeating nor appearing

وهيل ينكر الشمس المنيرة في الضحى

سوى العمى او يقلى سناها سوى الرمد

So inform them the glorious one and his company

Are in bliss not concerned with people's envy

ابى الله الا ان تكون مزية

وفضل لبحر يستماح على جعد

And among the people there are villains facilitated is their existence

To recognize the worth of the good over hardship

وان يثبت الملك المؤثل راسخا

مصونا لذي جند على غير ذي جند

Just as snakes exist whose poison assassinates

Loyalty and with it no counter spell avails

كفى حاسديه انهم عند سمعهم

مديح معاليه يذوبون من نأد

So is the wisdom of the Creator in His creation so whatever

Is facilitated for good or evil is purposefully

يودون لو صموا اذا سمعوا به

فما شانهم ان ينظروا عين ما يسدى

Congratulations to one for whom the glorious one is his protector

So he is protected from the poisons of worry from blazing effort

لعمرك ان الحس اصل الحسود اذ

يحس فوادا فيه يمكث كالحصد

And he is safe from the cunning of time and its tyranny

And he grazes in comfortable living with prosperity

فلست ترى من حاسد غير جائر

اذا ذكر المحسود من وجع الكبد

It is life so make use of what is made easy in it

Of fulfilling hopes that come to you yearned for

فداء له ارواحهم غير انها

اراحت فليست بالجديرة ان تفدى

And benefit it if you seek refuge with one you see

At his door the hopefuls delegations after delegations

ولو ان من يحصى وفو هناتهم

يثاب لا حياه الثواب من اللحد

And you recite joyfully with me documenting

With these congratulations for the Khedive may thanks be to God

لئن فقدوا طرا ففي منظر الدمى

يديل يلهى النفس عن ذلك الفقد

فانهم مثل التماثيل صورة

منقشة ما ان تعيد ولا تبدى

فابلغهم ان العزيز ورهطه

لفى غبطة ما يعبأون بذي حقد

وفي الناس اشرار اتيح وجودهم

ليعرف قدر الخيرين على وكد

كما توجد الحيات يغتال سمها

الوفا وما من رقية معه تجدى

كذا حكمة الخلاق في خلقه فما

اتيح لخير او لشر فعن عمد

هنيئاً لمن كان العزيز مجيره

فيوقى سموم الهم من لافح الجهد

ويأمن من كيد الزمان وجوره

ويرتع في عيش هنئ مع الرغد

هو العمر فاغنم ما تيسر فيه من

قضاء لبانات توافيك بالنشد

وانفعها ان تستجير بمن ترى

على بابه الراجين وفدا على وفد

وتنشد مسرورا معي ومؤرخا
