1. أَصبَحَ الجسم بِالجُروح موشى

    وَفُؤادي بِالجَمر أَمسى مغشى

    My body became decorated with wounds

    And my heart covered with burning embers

  2. لَم يُغادر مني التَباعُد إِلّا

    عَبرةً عَبرةً لِمَن كانَ يَخشى

    Nothing remains of me except

    Tears, tears for those who fear

  3. فَقَد أَلف وَطول لَيل وَسُهد

    جَعَلَ السقم وَالضَنا لي فَرشا

    For I have become accustomed to long nights and vigil

    Illness and grief have become my bedfellows

  4. أَتَمنى إِذا بَدا البَدر بَدري

    أَو حَماماً إِذا سَجى اللَيل يَغشى

    I wish that when the full moon appears

    Or a dove when the night casts its shadow
